Highlights
  • Hafnargata 2 - Enjoy a whale watching tour from the small fishing village of the west side of Eyjafjordur. Depart at your chosen time from the meeting point in this picturesque town and you will be taken into the midst of the whale populations and rich sea life characteristics of the area. Whether the whales have ventured deep into the fjord or are staying closer to Hrisey, they are always just a short trip away from Hauganes. Most common species include humpback whales, minke whales, harbour porpoises, white beaked dolphins and with a little luck blue whales and orcas (killer whales).

Your captain, a professional fisherman during the winter, will keep you in good hands during the summer whale watching season.

Special encounter - It was an incredible experience. The boat team was very considerate and you could feel the connection with the animals. We've seen so many humpbacks and we could almost claw them. In bright sunshine it was a very special encounter.

So many whales! - You never know what will happen when you go whale watching. Maybe you see one or two - maybe you get lucky like we did and see more whales than you can ever imagine. It was crazy! We saw them solo and we saw them in groups of 3, 4, and 5. We also got some great homemade cookies and hot chocolate. Fabulous experience and plenty warm in the suits they gave us to wear.

A wonderfully authentic and professional trip. The magnificent oak boats are beautiful. - Our tour guide in the south told us that the best whale watching in Iceland is out of Hauganes. She was not wrong. Hauganes Whale Watching is a family run company based in the quaint harbor town of Hauganes. The experience is authentic and the staff and crew are extremely knowledgeable, friendly and professional. We got up close to several humpback whales due to the skill of Captain Gardar and Julia, our knowledgeable guide, shared fascinating information about the whales throughout the tour. We loved every minute and the homemade cookies and hot chocolate were a welcome touch too. We would thoroughly recommend this trip for all ages. This will be a highlight of your vacation for sure.

Everything we could have hoped for - Incredible experience. A beautiful small harbour to set off from, an old traditional boat, excellent knowledge and most importantly we saw whales! Feeding, swimming and saw the tails a few times. The biscuits onboard were delicious! Felt very safe the whole time with our 3 year old. An incredible experience.

Lovely experience, friendly staff! - We took the 100% whale watching tour and indeed we got to see whales just very shortly after getting on the boat! The staff were really friendly and the location is stunning, too. You just need to remember that getting on a boat might not be ideal if you‘re seasick very easily - but I bet the wooden boats used by this company are already a lot better than the small boats others use, for that matter. Overall: highly recommended!
