Highlights
  • Røvær - Røvær is an island group in Haugesund Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The islands lie off the mainland shore about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) northwest of the town of Haugesund.
The 1.4-square-kilometre (0.54 sq mi) Røvær islands have about one hundred permanent residents (2014), as well as seasonal residents and visitors who rent vacation homes, stay at Røvær Seahouse (Røvær Sjøhus) or the newer Røvær Culture Hotel (Røvær Kulturhotell). The permanent residents who are not retired support themselves principally through farming, fishing, employment at the express boat service, teaching at the island’s local school, working at the salmon fish farm, or by commuting to work on the mainland.
During World War II, the island was occupied by German military forces, and there is still a concrete pillbox on Varden, the island’s highest point.

Additional Information

Experience a thrilling RIB boat tour as you discover the vibrant maritime heritage of the islands encircling Haugesund.

Your skipper navigates you along the picturesque waterways around Haugesund, originally responsible for giving Norway its name. These channels were viewed as the path to the North, hence the name Norway! As you transition from the narrow waterways to the open sea, brace yourself for an adrenaline-fueled journey as you soak up the breathtaking Norwegian scenery, with the scent of the ocean and the wind in your hair!

The tour guides you around a selection of islands and tiny channels, with your skipper recounting tales of the region’s history and its inhabitants who have adapted to this harsh maritime environment. If fortune favours, you might catch a glimpse of the White-tailed eagle, with its nesting area on one of the islands. Don’t forget your camera!

Awesome Excursion! - This was a fantastic excursion with a local company. Our rib boat captain was exceptional and we enjoyed an incredible afternoon on the water! And there was plenty of time left to enjoy the quaint town on Norwegian’s Constitution Day - with parade and all!

Wonderful afternoon - What a wonderful trip! The guides were lovely and informative, and this trip exceeded our expectations. We actually booked this excursion for a day earlier than our ship arrived in Haugesand and the company allowed us to come there next day, even though the mistake was 100% our fault. Very highly recommend.

Brilliant experience - Brilliant experience. Very well organized and run. Our guide was knowledgeable and professional (we felt safe!). All equipment (dry suit and goggles) provided. We lucked out with the weather as the sea was very flat, which meant we could go faster! The only way to see the small islands. Would highly recommend!

Excellent Rid ride pr by knowledgeable locals - Amazing rib ride with a fascinating insight into local island communities. Excellent facilities to safely leave your belongings and full safety gear provided. Run by locals so try and support them as there are other companies trying to muscle in from outside who don’t have the same local facilities.

What a great mixture of adrenaline and calm sailing. - Pure adrenaline from the off. Great safety talk from the skipper. Calmly out as far as our ship then whoosh. 600 horse kicking us up the backside. We literally flew over some of the waves. Then you arrive at a little island where we gently cruised through between beautiful houses whilst being told about the history and life on the island. Out the other side then he gave it some gas, 42 knots. Again, part sailing part flying. Next island, same routine cruised through, learnt about life on the island. Out the other side and 15 minutes of adrenaline back to port. I would highly recommend doing the trip. Put any fears you have behind you, it's perfectly safe. There are other companies but Viking Adventures is the only locally owned one so please support them.

Ahhhh and ohhhhhh continuously - It's a must-see in the region, full of emotions, When you hit the gas and it's well worth all the Disney rides - the visit to these different islands is fantastic. Special mention to the accompanying guide and speedboat driver for his humor, his eloquence and his art of living. he speaks English, very easy and understandable for foreigners. In short, to do without thinking about it - be careful though, not suitable for people with reduced mobility... You have to climb over the folding seat where you sit.

Fun RIB ride In Haugesund - The RIB boat was amazing!! It was so cool seeing the islands and enjoying the ride! We went in early May and still needed a hat to help keep us warm! 54 degrees the day we went and the wind was cold but the suit keeps your body warm!! So much fun! Highly recommend!
