Highlights
  • Paddy’s Market - We start the tour outside Paddy’s Markets, an important institution that heralded the beginnings of Sydney’s Chinatown.
  • Chinatown - Walk through Dixon Street, the heart of Sydney’s Chinatown and the largest Chinatown in the Southern Hemisphere. You’ll hear stories of how the area has developed over the decades, and continues to change. Be introduced to several important Chinese-Australians and their contributions to Chinatown, Sydney and Australia. Sample delicious regional street foods from several different restaurants on and near Dixon Street.
  • Darling Harbour - We pause outside the Chinese Garden of Friendship and tell you about the history of this lesser-known attraction. Over 30 years old, the Chinese Garden of Friendship is modelled on a Southern Chinese style scholars garden, and a beautiful spot for respite in the middle of the city. We don’t enter the garden, although you can visit it after the tour and take your time exploring.
  • Darling Square - Explore Darling Square, one of Sydney’s newest precincts full of restaurants, cafes and things to see.

Great morning out! - Bunny was a great guide. We learned the history of Chinatown, ate some tasty food, and Bunny even introduced to her childhood comfort food, which I made for our family’s dinner last night!

Don't miss out on this tour! - This tour was one of the highlights of our time in Sydney and we ended up revisiting the food establishments 2 more times during our stay. In addition to the incredible food discoveries, we learned so much about the history of Asians in Australia. It was a fantastic experience and our family highly recommends it for all! Our kids LOVED it! Thank you Justin!

Food is history - Fantastic tour. I really liked the history of how the Chinese came to Australia and the hard times they experienced. As an African American I truly understand the history and I would like to believe the Civil rights movement in America may have had a small influence in a small way on other countries around the world to grant their citizens the freedoms they so willingly give to others citizens. I could not tour Chinatown without knowing the history of the people and the history of the food. They both are so intertwined. Thank you for the history lesson and the delicious food tour

Fascinating, tasty and enlightening: Chinatown Street Food and Stories - An awesome afternoon of key landmarks in Chinatown, tasty food, and stories of the ways in which Chinese-Australians have long been a part of the community. Eddie our guide had such passion and heart for all of it and made sure we had a great afternoon. I really appreciated his depth of knowledge and feel richer for all that I learned and experienced. We tried a variety of tasty regional dishes and learned about the differences depending on region. I particularly liked the support of independent cafes and restaurants. As a local I now have a road map for trying new places to eat in Chinatown and am more confident to venture off the beaten track. Whether you are a local or visitor to Sydney, I highly recommend Local Sauce Tours - Chinatown Street Food and Stories. It will be an afternoon well-spent.
