Good Friday celebrations are predominantly religious, with the faithful gathering in large numbers to honor the passion and death of Jesus Christ.
On this day, churches are stripped of their usual decorative style to create a solemn atmosphere. In the afternoon, various towns and villages observe the Passion of the Christ with a solemn procession of statues. Each statue depicts a specific episode in the Passion of the Christ and is carried by bearers. Participants dress as biblical characters and partake in the procession with dignity. Many processions feature men carrying a cross and sometimes dragging chains tied to their bare feet as an act of faith or penance.
Join in this immersive event by visiting the Good Friday procession in the village of Żebbuġ. Experience the community’s traditions, marvel at the life-size statues and stunning costumes, and appreciate how the locals honor God through these esteemed annual processions.

- Transportation is wheelchair-accessible, but only if the wheelchair is foldable.
- Although it is customary for us to attend the procession held in the village of Żebbuġ, the provider reserves the right to modify the destination of the visit and attend the Good Friday procession at an alternative typical Maltese village without prior notice.
