Last-minute decision but enjoyed every second of it! - It's an amazing and interesting place! Our guide, Stefan was very knowledgeable and funny! It was a last-minute decision we made to go to the caves of Hella, after we got stood up at at stable in Hella but we don't regret it! If you're in the neighbourhood and you have the time, go there!

Lovely uplifun - Excellent uplifun í all staði. Leiðsögumaðurinn Stefán Smári was both fróðlegur and sagði skemmtilega fra. Áhugavert að heyra um keltnesku munkana sem sigldu to Íslands and buildðu hellana. Mæli með að koma við á Hellu and fara í skoðun.

Deep down and dirty, but enough about Stefán ;-) - Booked (rainy) day of, with a group of 3. Plenty of parking. The lady, who checked us in, was so polite and welcoming; she offered us a taste of Iceland. Our guide, Stefán, was friendly and funny! Our best informative tour guide and stand-up comedy show in one. Caveat: an older lady in our group left early... She wasn't Viking enough to appreciate the historical wonders of Hella. She was our offering to the elves. Highly recommend this activity to support local, family owned businesses. PS Stefán, where are the bodies of our Celtic brethren?!

Fun and informative - This was a really fun tour—our guide provided a ton of information about the caves, how they tie into the history of not only Iceland but also Ireland, and more. We were really glad we stopped, and definitely recommend it! Just be sure to dress warm, as the caves are quite cool.

Documentary-style tour was so much fun! - Check in was easy!
The guide was absolutely amazing at story telling, building intrigue, and explaining what is known/not known of the history. The guide was also amazingly funny which really grabbed our attention. Since the tour was only estimated to be 1 hour we originally didn’t think much of it, but we learned so much!! We even stayed after the tour to ask the guide what it was like growing up in Hella and other Iceland-culture questions!
What a lovely experience!

An Entrance to Past Eras - As someone who has spent over 30 years traveling to some of the most captivating corners of the globe, I can confidently say that the Caves of Hella in Iceland stand out as one of the most mysterious and breathtaking places I’ve ever visited.
The moment you approach these ancient man-made caves, a profound sense of wonder envelops you. Carved into volcanic rock, their origins remain shrouded in mystery, with theories ranging from Viking settlers to monks predating Iceland's Norse history. This enigma adds an almost mythical quality to the experience, sparking your imagination at every step.
Inside, the caves exude an atmosphere of timelessness. The interplay of light and shadow across the rough-hewn walls, combined with the whispers of history they seem to echo, makes exploring them an unforgettable journey. Some sections feel as though you’ve stepped into a natural cathedral, while others evoke the raw beauty of Iceland’s untamed wilderness.
The guides here are passionate and deeply knowledgeable, offering fascinating insights into the caves' potential origins and their role in local folklore. Their storytelling enhances the visit, connecting you to the spirit of the land and its people.
I’ve visited countless wonders across continents, but few have left me with the same sense of awe and curiosity as the Caves of Hella. If you’re in Iceland, this is an absolute must-visit. It’s a place where history, nature, and mystery converge to create an experience that will stay with you long after you leave.

Exceed expectations. Wonderful guide! - The caves were absolutely fascinating, and the young gentleman guide was very informative and funny. He answered all of our questions happily and we left feeling like we had a better understanding of Iceland as a whole.
All in all I feel like we got more than we expected or paid for.
I can't recommend enough!

Loved this! - We really enjoyed this tour! We learned a lot and loved the theory about Celtic people living there prior to the Nordic people. Stefan was very knowledgeable about the caves and mixed humor with history. History in the making in that it sounds like he even takes part in ongoing restoration. Although no children were on our tour, the language at times was a bit crude.
