- Reynisfjara Beach - Reynisfjara is a black sand beach that was recognized in 1991 as one of the world’s ten most beautiful non-tropical beaches.
It is often regarded as Iceland’s most hazardous beach due to its strong currents. Just offshore are the Reynisdrangar, basalt sea stacks located beneath the mountain Reynisfjall near the village of Vík í Mýrdal.
- Dyrholaey - Dyrhólaey, once known to sailors as Cape Portland, is a small promontory on Iceland’s south coast, close to the village of Vík. The peninsula rises to 120 feet (37 meters), with the Dyrhólaey lighthouse perched at the top, overlooking the sea.
The view from Dyrhólaey is expansive: To the north, the vast glacier Mýrdalsjökull is visible. To the east, the black lava columns of Reynisdrangar emerge from the sea, and to the west, the entire coastline stretches towards Selfoss.
During the summer, numerous Atlantic puffins nest on the cliff faces of Dyrhólaey.
