Wonderful beach - Wonderful and unforgettable beach. The very long journey by bus 4:30/5 but definitely worth it. A true paradise

In the pink at Elafonisi - A wonderful beach day! Our excellent guide warned us that Elafonisi publicity photos don't quite show the reality of the beach, but it's lovely regardless. There's no shade so beach umbrellas and mats are needed but can be bought at the local mini market as the sunshades and loungers for hire sell out really fast.

Great easy trip to the beach - We stayed in Heraklion so this was a great way to see more of the island and get to the beach without worrying about car rental or driving. Have cash for the toilets. There is a section of the beach where you can reserve 2 beach chairs and an umbrella (stationary) for €10 but they fill up fast - we got there around. 1100 and were lucky to nab one. You have to find an empty one and give that number to the cashier. The water was pretty shallow all throughout

Beautiful beach - The coach trip took 5 hours and it was quite warm. We were picked up from our hotel. Our tour guide Elizabeth was a lovely lady who gave us some very interesting information on our drive thru tour of villages. Our driver was exceptional in his driving. The beach was beautiful and even though there was pink sand, there wasn’t much. The beach got quite busy around lunchtime. Beautiful scenery and worth the €40 per person.

Good and bad - We started the day early with a two-hour drive from Malia, setting out before the sun was fully up. As the day progressed, the temperature soared to sweltering levels, with the heat feeling almost unbearable under the relentless sun. There was hardly any breeze, making it feel even more scorching—truly a blistering hot day! However, the real challenge came on the way back. What should have been a simple return journey ended up taking an outrageous amount of time. The drive stretched into a grueling five and a half hours, far longer than the original trip. Despite the exhausting heat and the unexpectedly long return journey, the day itself was otherwise perfect!

Trip to Elafonisi Beach - Our day at Elafonisi Beach was great. We had an awesome time swimming snd relaxing at the beach. We were fortunate to get an umbrella and two sunbeds before they were all taken, otherwise it would have been a little bit more miserable spending all day in the direct sun as there is little to no natural shade. That being said, it cost €20, which is a little ridiculous! Try to bring your own shade to avoid this cost. There were a lot of people, but everyone had enough space to themselves in the sea. I imagine this only increases as the tourist season reaches its peak. Be sure to bring cash as there isn't a lot of options close for food and drink. One the day we went, one of the two taverns was cash only. Our guide was great, offering interesting historical and locally relevant information! The tour catered to people who spoke English, French and German, which meant everything was repeated three times. My recommendation would be to attend a single language tour to have more quiet time on the 4 hour early morning drive. I wouldn't go on this tour again from Heraklion, but I would go agin from a closer starting point!

Beachy Blunder - The beach is amazing BUT…the tour guide was horrendous. She was horribly rude to us and others on the tour. When we got back on the bus at the end of the day, we weren’t aware that we had to sit in the same seats as the morning. When we tried to sit closer to the front of the bus, she immediately snapped at us. First, she questioned if we were even on her tour. We assured her we were and explained about preferring to sit near the front. She told us we had to get off the bus and wait for everybody else to get on. When more people got on the bus, she approached them the same way. One couple, who also spoke English, did not immediately respond when she spoke to them. She asked them, “Do you speak English, because I know I am speaking English?” She continued this way with English speaking passengers, but was friendlier with the French speaking passengers. The condition of the bus is also horrible. Our knees were pushed into the seat in front of us, the seats did not recline properly, and we made a few unscheduled stops. For the 8 hours we spent on the bus It was a horrible experience.
