- Castello del Molo (Koules) - Known as Roca a Mare or Castello del Molo, this is the jewel of Heraklion, constructed by the Venetians in the 16th century. While on board, there is a close-up view of the Castello, or Rocca a Mare (Fort of the Sea). Passing by, one can admire the emblem of the Republic of Venice, the lion sculpture on white marble, the renowned winged lion of St. Mark.
- Dia - Experience romance and charm while sailing into the sunset. Passion fills the soul as the beauty of the night unfolds. The atmosphere changes swiftly, with lights, the sound of waves, and colors soothing the senses. There is no more beautiful sight than the sun setting into the sea, and nothing more delightful than sharing this view with loved ones. Departing from Heraklion’s old harbor offers a perfect view of Rocca al Mare Castle and the Old Arsenals as the crew hoists the sails. The wind calms, and the boat sails in the cool evening breeze to a secret island. Chasing the sunset! Mooring in a secluded bay, naturally shielded from the wind, enjoy some wine as the crew prepares a romantic dinner aboard. Having a private romantic dinner on the yachts will make any special occasion truly memorable. Enjoy the best table with the best view of the sea!
- Basilique St Marc Municipal Art Gallery - One of the first significant works by the Venetian settlers was constructing a temple dedicated to their patron, St. Mark, in the city’s center, opposite the Duke’s Palace. St. Mark’s Basilica, now the Municipal Art Gallery, often hosts art and crafts exhibitions and is almost always open to visitors. Built in 1239 in the Piazza delle Biade (Square of Blades), it was once the Cathedral of Crete. The Basilica belonged to the reigning Duke and eventually became his burial place.
In May 2006, the Basilica hosted the First International Conference on Ethics and Politics, featuring speakers from around the world. Visitors will appreciate its cool, dignified interior and may begin to sense the city’s great age in its venerable walls.
- Morosini Fountain (Lion’s Fountain) - Enjoy walking in one of the most historically and socially fascinating cities facing the Mediterranean, on streets free from traffic noise and rush. Liondaria, or Lion Square, is the heart of Heraklion, where tourists and locals share the small space around the fountain, exchanging glances and perhaps a few words. Business and pleasure combine here, making it a place to meet for any purpose or no purpose. Also known as the Morosini Fountain or Liondaria, the decorated fountain consists of eight cisterns adorned with stone reliefs depicting figures from Greek mythology, including Nymphs, Tritons, sea monsters, and dolphins, while the main basin is supported by four seated lions balancing a circular bowl on their heads.
- Church of Agios Titos - St. Titus’ Cathedral is an impressive sight. Saint Titus, a companion of Saint Paul, preached the gospel in Crete during Roman rule and was martyred in Gortyn, where a 7th-century basilica stands in his memory. His church in Heraklion was built during the second Byzantine period, initially serving as the city’s cathedral. During Venetian rule, it housed the Catholic archbishop’s seat and was renovated in 1466, only to be destroyed by fire in 1544. During the Turkish Occupation, it served as a mosque called Vizier Tzami, with a minaret added, now gone. The present-day structure results from further renovations after its near-total destruction by a strong earthquake in 1856, followed by later work in 1922. The skull of St. Titus was transferred here from Venice in 1956 and has been kept in the church since. If the cathedral is open during a visit, it is well worth exploring.
