The whale watching trip begins with an on-land briefing led by our whale specialist guide before heading down the jetty to our catamaran. We then set off from the Hermanus New Harbour in search of the ‘gentle giants.’ The purpose-built catamaran provides superior viewing and comfort and during the tour and the friendly, knowledgeable crew add that personal touch allowing for an all-round great experience. Our Whale Specialist guide will interpret the marine life encountered en route and provide insight into the behaviour of the whales while you are watching them in action. Our videographer will ensure that the best footage is captured.

Beautiful whale watching tour - After a friendly reception, we wait with a cup of coffee and a muffin for the info meeting in which a lot of information is given about the species of whales and their lifestyles. Then we board the beautiful ship. We sail half an hour towards the nature reserve in front of the Cellars. Here we soon see mother whales with their calf.
The crew really seeks out the whales and hangs around them long enough to enjoy the moment and take lots of pictures.

Wow - what a wonderful couple of hours! - Jacques was soooo very knowledgeable about the marine life around the bay. We all asked loads of questions about the whales and he answered them all. We were lucky enough to see 6 different sets of whales (mum and babe). We got up close and personal. We thoroughly enjoyed the day.

A great whale watching experience with an excellent team. - Bottom line up front…….an excellent experience, with a friendly and knowledgeable team, on a comfortable boat, at a reasonable price.
We selected this tour based on reviews on TripAdvisor and we were not disappointed. The booking experience was easy and accurate. In advance of the trip there was good communication about the trip and we were key informed about where to be and when.
In the day the location was easy to find and there was parking next to the harbour (ignore the pretend car park attendants, it was free.
We got a good brief on what we were likely to see and given info about the whales.
The boat we were on was a twin hull, which made it more stable, although for us the conditions were good anyway.
We came across a group of 3 whales (and a few seals) and we got very close. It was a wonderful experience.
I would definitely recommend this trip, and this company in particular as I felt safe and well looked after. The boat team is passionate and friendly. Enjoy!

Best charter! - I would like to give a very big compliment and Thank you to southern right charters! First of all the tour was amazing, we got to see 2 different species of whales the boat was great and our tourguide gave Lots of information!
Unfortunately my friend got seasick after one hour. The way they helped us was outstanding, a special thanks to our tourguide who helped to get her to recover asap but also the rest of the crew and offcourse the team in the office who helped us with getting a hold of our Uber driver. I would definitely recommend this charter, most friendly crew and amazing tour!

Great whale watching excursion with dolphins - We saw lots of whales. And a large pod of dolphins escorted us back to the dock! Excellent charter company. They are conservation focused. We were given a thorough briefing about whales and the history of whaling by Jacques before heading out. He is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The boat is clean and well maintained. It is comfortable and gives good protection from wind and rain. We did the early departure. This company is the only one with an early departure so we were the only boat on the bay

Not the best season? - OK, we saw whales and that two hours tour was great experience!
But we did not see e.g. dolphins and whales were so deep that getting fotoes to show friends were not possible.
Southern Right Charters gave interesting and informative lesson first. Safety feeling all the time on seas. The group was able to tell great stories and experiences. We were very happy - and recommend anyone visiting there in August - December to do it. But we believe there are even better days, and little miss something more. OK, that's part of the wild nature!

Worth it! - Great value for money , with great team leading the trip ( friendliest ever ☺) . We had a great time and will recommend this activity to anyone. The drone footage we bought after the trip is a great souvenir.
