A Family Adventure: Discovering La Gomera’s Hidden Gems
Eager to find a family-friendly adventure, I embarked on the La Gomera tour with my kids. From ferry rides to exploring lush valleys and learning about unique cultures, it promised a day full of discovery.
Setting Sail to La Gomera
As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for experiences that are both educational and enjoyable for my children. When I heard about the La Gomera Adventure, I knew it was something we had to try. Our day began bright and early, with a bus picking us up from our hotel at 7:30 AM. The excitement was palpable as we made our way to the Port of Los Cristianos, where we boarded the Fred.Olsen ferry to La Gomera.
The ferry ride was a delightful start to our adventure. With plenty of seating, a cafeteria for snacks, and even a chance to enjoy the sea breeze, it was a comfortable journey. My kids were thrilled to watch the waves and spot the occasional seagull. The 40-minute ride flew by, and soon we were on the island, ready to explore.
Discovering the Wonders of Hermigua Valley
Our first stop was the picturesque Hermigua Valley. The lush landscapes and charming hamlets were a sight to behold. We made a quick stop at an Eco Aloe Vera farm, where we learned about the benefits of Aloe Barbadensis. The kids were fascinated by the presentation, and I couldn’t resist purchasing some cooling aloe gel for those inevitable bumps and bruises that come with family adventures.
Lunch was at a local restaurant in Agulo, where we were treated to a demonstration of the Silbo Gomero, the island’s unique whistling language. It was a captivating experience, and my children were eager to try whistling their own messages. While the fish dish I chose was a bit bland, the overall experience was delightful, complete with wine and dessert.
Exploring Garajonay National Park
After lunch, we headed to the Garajonay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The laurel forest was a magical place, with its misty atmosphere and towering trees. We took a leisurely walk through the park, breathing in the fresh air and marveling at the natural beauty. It was a bit chilly, so I was glad we had packed our jackets.
Our final stop was in San Sebastián, where we visited a beautiful church and learned about Christopher Columbus’s connection to the island. As we made our way back to the ferry, I reflected on the day’s adventures. The tour was a perfect blend of history, culture, and nature, making it an ideal family outing. If you’re looking for a day trip that offers something for everyone, the La Gomera tour is a must-do.
