The best experience to get to know the Veracruz of the pre-Hispanic past closest to the Veracruz metro area - A great trip that helped us better understand the pre-Hispanic cultures that inhabited the state of Veracruz. The places really are wonderful and it should be noted that apart from the magic of each place, the guides Wendy, Roberto and Miguel were splendid in making us know each place better, without them it would not have been possible to delve deeper and know little details about each place. For people interested, I'd say, step 1 is doing this trip and step 2 is going to El Tajín to get a complete understanding of Veracruz cultures and its links to the rest of Mexico cultures.

Important historic sites off the beaten track - I travelled to Veracruz to specifically visit Quiahuiztlán (and Villa Rica), Cempoala and La Antigua. While the tour was in Spanish only (I could speak and understand some), I also came with some knowledge of the Indigenous past and Spanish incursion history of this area. Being present in these locations meant something to me and I appreciate the efforts of my driver and the guides in each location to help fill in the blanks. My driver was helpful and pointed out places I would've overlooked. He was my Captain for the day. The guides at each location were exceptional. They harboured their histories of the past and shared them generously with me. Gracias. The only thing I would note – because the tour requires a minimum of 2 people, I did have to pay double as I was the only person on tour. However, this was worth it for me and I believe the service received was amply given. I'd suggest you read a little about the sites before visiting to get the most from each location and to understand the footsteps that have walked here in the past.
