Exploring Hoi An’s Culinary Delights: A Day with Sabirama Cooking Class
In search of a unique cultural experience, I embarked on the Sabirama Cooking Class in Hoi An. Join me as I explore the vibrant local market, enjoy a scenic boat ride, and learn to cook authentic Vietnamese dishes with Chef Quy.
A Journey Through Hoi An’s Culinary Heart
As a digital nomad, I often find myself in search of unique experiences that allow me to connect with the local culture. When I heard about the Sabirama Cooking Class in Hoi An, I knew it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. The day began with a warm welcome from Mr. Quy, our guide and soon-to-be chef. He picked us up from our hotel and shared fascinating insights about Hoi An’s rich history and culinary traditions.
Our first stop was a bustling local market, where Mr. Quy introduced us to the vibrant array of ingredients that form the backbone of Vietnamese cuisine. As someone who loves to cook, I was thrilled to learn about the unique herbs and spices that give Vietnamese dishes their distinctive flavors. The market was a sensory overload, with the aroma of fresh produce and the lively chatter of vendors creating an unforgettable atmosphere.
A Scenic Adventure to Cam Thanh Village
After the market, we embarked on a leisurely boat ride along the Thu Bon River, taking in the stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The transition to traditional round boats was a delightful surprise, adding an authentic touch to our journey. As we glided through the water, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of peace and connection to the natural beauty around me.
Upon reaching the village, we were greeted by the sight of a water buffalo cart waiting to take us to the Sabirama Cooking School. The ride was a charming experience, offering a glimpse into the rural life of Vietnam. Once we arrived, we were treated to a refreshing welcome drink and a soothing neck, shoulder, and foot massage. It was the perfect way to unwind before diving into the culinary adventure that awaited us.
Cooking and Feasting with Chef Quy
To our surprise, Mr. Quy reappeared in his chef’s uniform, ready to guide us through the cooking class. His passion for Vietnamese cuisine was evident as he demonstrated each dish with precision and enthusiasm. We prepared four dishes: a mango salad with shrimp and pork, rolled wet rice paper with minced pork and vegetables, beef noodle soup (Pho Bo), and Vietnamese chicken curry.
The class was well-paced, allowing both novice and experienced cooks to enjoy the process. Chef Quy encouraged us to cook at our own pace, offering tips and guidance along the way. As we sat down to enjoy our creations, I was amazed at how delicious everything turned out. The flavors were vibrant and authentic, a testament to the quality of the ingredients and Chef Quy’s expertise.
The day concluded with a taxi ride back to our hotel, our hearts and bellies full from the incredible experience. At just $35 per person, the Sabirama Cooking Class was a fantastic value, offering a memorable journey through the culinary heart of Hoi An. If you find yourself in this charming town, I highly recommend adding this unique experience to your itinerary.
