Hoi An is not only famous for its old culture and architecture but also famous for its craftmanship contributed by the 2 well-known craft villages: Kim Bong carpentry and Thanh Ha pottery. Many hundred years ago, the very first Vietnamese coming from the North set their villages around Hoi An and got along with the native Cham people here. Soon did the Chinese and Japanese come and brought their skills, techniques along. The Vietnamese quickly adapted all of them and developed their craftsmanship. Kim Bong became the village of carpentry where boats, ships, wooden furniture were built, meanwhile Thanh Ha became a big pottery factory. For many hundred years, their products have been sold to several countries around the world.
