The journey crosses the picturesque Black Isle, with a stop in the charming village of Lochcarron. Here, visitors can enjoy the stunning views across Loch Carron and perhaps grab a bite to eat before continuing to Achintraid. This quaint village offers views over Loch Kishorn and a magnificent mountain range on the opposite shore.
- Bealach na Ba Road - The adventure continues with an ascent through the dramatic landscape of Bealach na Ba (Gaelic for Pass of the Cattle), also known as the Applecross Pass. This road is the third highest in Britain, reaching over 2000 feet. There will be a stop at the summit for photos, so have cameras ready to capture the breathtaking views across Raasay and the Isle of Skye!

- Shieldaig - Departing from Applecross, the return journey to Inverness includes a leisurely drive along the banks of Loch Torridon and through the Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve. This reserve, one of the oldest in Britain, is rich in wildlife, and there might even be a chance to see a golden eagle! The tour will make brief stops at the villages of Shieldaig and Kinlochewe on the way back to Inverness. Shieldaig, a small fishing village established in 1800, derives its name from the Viking word síld-vík, meaning “Herring Bay.”
- Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve - A pause here allows for taking in the scenery and enjoying some refreshments before continuing along Loch Torridon to Kinlochewe. From this point, the tour leaves the NC500 route and heads back to Inverness, where the Applecross tour concludes.
