Highlights
  • Culloden House Hotel - Originally a 16th-century Jacobean Castle, parts of Culloden House date back to this period. Over the years, various owners have called Culloden home, from King Robert II to the Chieftain of the Macintosh clan. In 1625, Duncan Forbes purchased Culloden from the Macintosh Clan. Bonnie Prince Charles stayed here for three nights before the battle.
  • Clava Cairns - Clava Cairns, or the prehistoric burial cairns of Bulnuaran of Clava, are a group of three Bronze Age cairns. These include passage graves, ring cairns, kerb cairns, and standing stones dating back 4,000 years. The largest standing stone is said to have inspired Diana Gabaldon’s famous Outlander novel, now a popular TV series.
  • Culloden Battlefield - The Battle of Culloden changed world history on April 16, 1746. The Jacobite army fought to reclaim the British throne from the Hanoverians for a Stuart King, while the British army was equally determined to prevent this. A fierce European war had come to Scotland, dividing families and setting clan against clan. Things went wrong for the Jacobites on December 6 in Derby, 100 miles from London, when an angry Bonnie Prince Charlie was persuaded to return to Scotland.
  • Loch Ness - The Loch Ness Monster, or Nessie as she is affectionately known, is one of the world’s greatest mysteries. With over 1,100 recorded sightings, there’s no doubt that people are seeing something. So, how much do we really know about Nessie and her extraordinary Loch Ness home? Whether you’re planning an unforgettable monster-spotting trip or just brushing up on your monster facts, you’re in the right place!
  • Great Glen Distillery - The Great Glen Distillery was established by two friends during the first lockdown of 2020. Hotelier Daniel Campbell and renowned chef Adam Dwyer built the distillery in what was Daniel’s late mother’s shop in the small Highland village of Drumnadrochit. Together, Daniel and Adam began experimenting with the idea of creating a distillery inspired by the local area. They developed a recipe using local botanicals and water sourced from Loch Ness, eventually releasing their signature Great Glen Gin in July 2021. The gin takes its name from the Great Glen fault line, created by glaciers more than 10,000 years ago.
  • Urquhart Castle - Once one of Scotland’s largest castles, Urquhart saw significant conflict during its 500 years as a medieval fortress. Control of the castle shifted between the Scots and English during the Wars of Independence. The power struggles continued as the Lords of the Isles regularly raided both the castle and the glen until the 1500s. The last of the government troops garrisoned here during the Jacobite Risings blew up the castle when they left. Urquhart’s iconic ruins remain, offering glimpses into medieval times and the lives of its noble residents.

This Outlander Tour Rocks - We took this tour with kilted Scot, George Richie, and were completely happy with everything. He took us to all the Outlander locations including sneaking through the bushes of a graveyard and unlocking the Frazer church where we were able to go down into the crypt!! What fun! Clava Cairns was magical, Culloden and the stories of what happened there was dramatic and sad, while Loch Ness tickled a bit of mystery. George was fun and informative, and we would definitely recommend this tour.

The most AMAZING tour! - 10/10! 5 stars! We had an ‘Outlander tour’ with George and it was one of the most amazing experiences! George is so knowledgeable when it comes to Scottish history. We learned and saw SO much on this tour. If you are an Outlander fan, you HAVE to book an Outlander tour with George. I left the Highlands with so much insight and amazing memories after this tour.

Stress-free way to cover a lot of ground and learn so much along the way! - 10/10 recommend for anyone visiting Inverness, especially if you’re not from Scotland (we’re from the US). George efficiently covered so many things we wanted to do in one day that would have been logistically tricky for us to do being totally unfamiliar with the area. And regardless of whether or not you’re familiar with Outlander, everyone will learn a lot about the city, surrounding areas, and Scottish history. George was so friendly and offered many opportunities to take photos along the way. Don’t be daunted by the length of the tour — he makes it so easy and relaxing by taking the stress of driving out of the equation. He also took us to beautiful places we didn’t even know existed and never would have seen otherwise. It was truly a memorable experience. Thank you for everything, George!
