Highlights
  • Cawdor Castle - You will be presented with an audio guide, which provides an informative and entertaining tour of this spectacular castle, which dates back to at least 1454. From the 16th Century portrait gallery in the drawing room, to the 17th Century Flemish tapestries in one of the bedrooms, every room features fine art and antique furniture, and there are stories behind every piece. After you have completed the tour you will have time to enjoy the varied gardens. There is also a cafe and a couple of gift shops here. Entrance to Cawdor Castle is included in the tour price.
  • Culloden Battlefield - Our final stop is at Culloden Battlefield, one of the most important battlefields in the UK. Here, your guide will bring the landscape to life on a 30-minute walking tour, as he enthralls you with the story of the last pitched battle on British soil; the Jacobite uprising of 1746.
  • Clava Cairns - Clava Cairns is a well-preserved group of prehistoric burial cairns which were built around 4000 years ago. This Bronze Age cemetery has a wide range of interesting historical structures to explore such as passage graves, ring cairns, a curb cairn, and standing stones. For Outlander fans, this is a must-see stop!
  • Scottish Highlands - We take the roads-less-travelled to show you some of the spectacular scenery the Scottish Highlands is famous for.
  • Loch Ness - Our next stop is Dores Beach, on the south side of Loch Ness, where the view was recently voted one of the tops in the UK! You will have some time to take a stroll on the beach, or perhaps you would like to purchase a unique Nessie souvenir from the resident monster hunter, Steve Feltham. There is also a cozy Scottish pub on the shores of the Ness, where you may wish to sample a local beer or whisky.
  • Inverness - With its fascinating history, location on the River Ness, a plethora of characterful pubs, and Scottish shops, there is something for everyone here.

Fantastic tour of the Scottish highlands - We had a full day tour of the Scottish highlands, leaving directly from our cruise port of Invergordon. Our guide, Robert, was the best - very knowledgeable, funny, and entertaining. He told us the history behind the places we visited as we rode in a small, comfortable mini-bus to our destinations. He was never dull, and kept us entertained and comfortable. We toured Cawdor Castle, with its amazing gardens, saw Cava Clairns, Cullodon battlefield, and Loch Ness. We also had one hour free to explore the city of Inverness. It was the perfect way to see the highlights of the Scottish highlands in one day.

WOW Scotland highland tour on Princess Cruise - We booked the Classic Highland Tour from Invergordon at our stop during a Princess Cruise and it was a highlight of trip. It was a smaller coach/bus (30 person) - tight fit, but it was nice being in a smaller group. Rob was a fantastic tour guide - friendly, funny, and very knowledgeable. We arrived at Cawdor Castle before it opened and were allowed to go in early (WOW Scotland has an arrangement with them) and beat the larger bus crowds. Other stops at Clava Cairns, Loch Ness, Culloden Battlefield, and Inverness were also great. Felt like we had plenty of time to explore Inverness on our own. The only disappointment was not seeing any Highland Cattle along the way. While it was mentioned in the tour as a possibility, it was not guaranteed.

Unbeatable shore excursion for cruise ship passengers visiting Invergordon/Inverness - WOW Scotland massively exceeded our expectations with their full-day, small-bus excursion exploring the highlights of the Scottish Highlands around Inverness with a pickup at the cruise port in Invergordon. Murdoch, our guide/driver, was personable, entertaining and knowedgeable from start to finish. The visits to Cowdor Castle, the ancient Rock Cairns, the Culloden Battlefield, Loch Ness and Inverness were all fantastic! Best of all Murdoch spent the day telling the story and historic significance of the Jacobite uprising in the 1840s and the impact on Scotland over the next century. We especially liked how he brought the tale of Bonnie Prince Charlie and his part in the rebellion to life.

Awesome tour of the Scottish Highlands - We LOVED the Scottish Highlands tour with WOW Scotland! So great! We were on a cruise of the British Isles in July 2024, and one of our ports was Inverness / Invergordon. Murdoch was our tour guide. He is a knowledgeable guy who shares about his culture and Scottish history with passion and by crafting a great story. He is a great story teller! We felt like we got a lovely taste of Scottish history and culture all in one day. We highly recommend this experience to anyone wanting a great tour, including other cruisers. I particularly appreciated that WOW Scotland addressed the concern about getting back to the cruise ship on time - both through their website and comments from the tour guide right at the start of the tour. The guide stated that we would be back to the ship at a specific time and that put my concern to rest and I was able to enjoy the day. This is a critical point because cruise lines say they will only wait for you if you are on one of their excursions. On our cruise of the British Isles we did a mix of excursions - some with the cruise line, some on our own, and a few private ones. The private (and private group) excursions like the one with WOW Scotland were - by far - our favorite! We loved having a knowledgeable guide and felt like we got so much more enjoyment out of the port compared to the ones where we just wandered on our own. Also - we felt like the private tours were a higher quality experience than the excursions through the cruise line. Highly recommend WOW Scotland and Murdoch! Thanks for a great day!

Great for cruise ship passengers - Good itinerary and pacing to the day. Robert was our guide and he was outstanding. Very knowledgeable and very funny. We had a wonderful time and he got us back to our cruise ship right on time. He even advised us on what sights to go see at our next port (Edinburgh). Much better pricing and itinerary than those excursions offered by our cruise line and it was still convenient to be picked up from the port. I would choose to take a WOW tour again in the future.

THE BEST TOUR COMPANY EVER!!!! - If I could give this company 100 stars I would! This company is the gold standard of tour companies and other companies could learn from how WOW Scotland operates! Starting with clear, correct communication made it easy for us to find them departing from our cruise ship, plus they were dressed the part and holding colorful signs! Next, assigned seats on the bus, what a brilliant idea, no pushing and shoving from people who want to be up front, no separating kids from parents because they happen to be last to board an no one will give up a seat. I wish every tour company would do this as we saw plenty of bad behavior from people with other tour companies. Murdoch was our guide and I can say I walked away from this tour learning so much about Scotland. He was funny, informative, friendly and professional, a real gem for your your company! Thank you for a lifetime of memories and making this shore excursion the best of our 28 day cruise!!!

Nice tour with quirks - Wow, tours offers a reasonable alternative to cruise ship tours. The tour itself operates with two small buses. Our bus was almost full. The tour highlights key spots of interest in northern Scotland. I paid extra for the extra legroom seat which cost 10 pounds the good: -much cheaper alternative than cruise ship tours -Very kind tour guide who is knowledgeable about the area -4 visit to key sites, including Battlefield of Colloden , Inverness, ancient burial site used for outlander, And of course, Loch Ness. -bus was clean, plenty of time for food break (not provided) -Exceptionally mindful of on-time return to the ship, we returned with over an hour to spare The not so good: -advertises as leaving on time, we left 20 minutes late waiting for a couple from the ship, unacceptable. This cost us time in our tour. -Assigned seats, this made it very clumsy and time-consuming when starting the tour Overall, the very positive experience and I would recommend this tour. -

Lots to see, not enough time - We booked the shore excursion from Invergordon and visited Cawdor Castle, Culloden, Clava Cairns, Loch Ness and Inverness. Our driver/guide Andrew was outstanding. He was full of great knowledge and kept everyone on time and task. Due to our time in port the amount of time spent at each attraction was limited. I would have preferred to leave out the 1 hour shopping stop in Inverness in order to spend more time at the castle. We were basically rushed through without time to really absorb what we were seeing. I did like that we got a discount on a packed lunch which we enjoyed while at Culloden.
