9 Balnakyle Rd - Taste your way around the Highlands, enjoying food that is good for you, good for those who grow or rear it, and good for the planet. I aim to safeguard “forgotten foods”, the recipes you only find in real family cookbooks.
The first thing to remember is that I’m not about “putting dots” on plates, I’m about real home cooking, typical food that is strongly characterised by local culture and history. The food that families cooked for generations, that tell stories and represent the true culture of a place.

Additional Information
I believe high-quality, regionally-focused cuisine is essential when visiting the Highlands, and I assure you a genuine Highland experience. The dining style of The Cleikum Social Eating Club is inspired by the Cleikum from Sir Walter Scott’s ‘St. Ronan’s Well,’ a figure who greatly popularized the Highlands as a romantic travel destination.
Born and raised in Inverness, I have a passion for the tourism potential of this area and hold a deep knowledge about it.
While studying at University, I worked as a guide/hostess in the observation car from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh during the summer season. I offered a continuous narrative throughout the trip, and assisted visitors with food recommendations, sightseeing suggestions and provided insights about the Isle of Skye.

A delightful company and best food I had in Scotland! - Karen, provided an amazing experience. The food pairing was out of this world! Everything we had was local and prepared to its finest. She was a lovely host and we enjoyed the company of the other guest as well. She also provided much knowledge of the area. I would 100% recommend this experience.

Home cooked authentic fresh food with a flair! - Karen, our host opened her home and hearth to us. The food was superb, her hospitality even better. Each course was perfect and she provided much background information. She actually forages for fresh mushrooms, berries and other fresh foods to include in her dinners! She recommended other must-see stops and restaurants for our party. When the cab companies refused to pick us up as there was a football game on and no one came to work, she drove us all back to our Airbnb! Absolutely delightful!

Treat yourself and family to this dinner and hosting experience - This was a shot in the dark to go to dinner at a strangers house, and we couldn't be more happier that we did. We really wanted the full Scottish friendly food experience, and Karen provided just that, in her beautiful home. She made some great foods that were on the Scottish "must try" list, but she also accommodated our squeamish teenagers that wont try seafood. The food couldn't have been any more "Farm to table" that what we had, it was freshly picked, cooked to perfection, and the company and conversation was marvelous. Wish we lived in the same country, so we could do it again! Treat yourself and family to this dinner and host.

Amazing meal and amazing company - Dinner with Karen was a highlight of our trip to the Highlands. The meal she she served was authentic and delicious, especially the haggis. We loved spending time in her warm and inviting home and so enjoyed her company and conversation. Highly recommend that you spend evening with her as well!

A wonderful meal in a charming Scottish home - Delightful conversation with the hostess. Authentic, delicious Scottish dishes. All of her ingredients were locally sourced. The venison was especially good, dressed with fresh highland berries. I'm not fond of venison, but hers was delicious.

Truly a must to experience the local charm and exquisite taste of Inverness - We had such a wonderful time at Karen’s house! A brilliant Scottish local who also happens to be an incredible chef! We wined and dined, laughed and enjoyed ourselves. Definitely a night to remember.
She makes a 3 course meal with a variety of Local seasonal delights. Plus her kind personality with interesting stories and beautifully designed modern/artistic home definitely makes it a night to remember
