Don’t miss out if you’re in Punta Cana! - This tour is the highlight of our trip to Punta Cana. Sandy and Franklin are our driver and tour guide respectively. Franklin is eloquent and articulate about the excursion. He has a lot of knowledge on Dominican Republic history that he graciously shared with us throughout our entire trip. We started off with horse back riding which was a slow and easy start. We then head to the church where we learned about the pope that visited DR many years ago. This was the first place where we were introduced to the tourism police. We were reminded that tourism is a huge economy booster for the country so they take safety of foreigners very seriously. We were escorted at the market place by the police along with pictures being taken when we left the truck . I felt at ease and thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the spices, fruits and how people lived. One of the most memorable part of the trip is learning about how cocoa and coffee beans were processed. Freshly grounded, they smell divine! We also got to enjoy free samples of cigars and had the opportunity to learn how cigars were made. Overall, this is a great excursion that our lil group (3 of us) enjoyed. I highly recommend it!

You WILL get your money’s worth! - This trip was a great way to immerse yourself in the Dominican culture. You will see everything and more! The tour definitely goes longer than the description states so be prepared for a full day. Our driver Darwin was incredibly knowledgeable on the local history and culture, taking extra time to ensure all of us were having a great time.

Great Tour! - We had an absolute blast on this tour and are so glad we went for it! After digging through a ton of options, I decided to roll the dice on Jhoraji instead of the pricier packages the airline and hotel were pushing—and wow, what a win! Smaller group, way more affordable, and just as fun (if not better). Franklin, our guide, was an absolute gem—super knowledgeable and hilarious. He kept us laughing and learning with his jokes and fascinating tidbits about Dominican culture and history. The tour was packed with awesome experiences: free horseback riding, a tasty lunch, browsing the local market and souvenir shops, sipping Dominican wine, tasting and learning about chocolate and coffee, rolling cigars at a cigar factory, admiring the stunning Higuey Basilica, and snapping pics at the beautiful Macao Beach. Quick heads-up: you might not have enough time for a proper swim at the beach, but you could snap some pics. Although they call it a “half-day tour,” it’s closer to a full-day adventure—we got picked up around 7:30 am and were back at the hotel by 4:30 pm. Huge shoutout to Sandy, our driver, and Tito, the tour coordinator plus all the amazing staff at the spots we visited. Everyone was super friendly and made sure we had an unforgettable experience. If you want to see the real Dominican Republic without breaking the bank, this tour is an absolute must!

Real authentic day & the life of a local - We were picked up at 7 a.m. sharp from Cap Cana. Other guests were picked up after 7, but before 8 a.m., six in a van. Justo was our driver. He didn't speak much English, but used a translator to tell us what he was saying. It was fine. You will find that several tour guides are taking other groups on the same exact tour. You'll meet up at the same spots, one group is wrapping up while the other group is arriving. The tour guides work together, so one of the other bilingual guides spoke to our group when we arrived to ride the horses and at the coffee/cocoa. The "typical house" was an actual house someone lived in, and was right next to the Cacao trees and where they make/sell the Cacao, coffee, cinnamon sticks and more. The market was an experience to remember (the smell, display, etc.) The store near the market was over priced. The Tabacco and cigar making place has a store with nice things and better prices. They also give you free rum tasting, including Mama Juana which has honey and cinnamon in it (you can get more than one taste). The restaurant is where locals eat. We passed through several towns which are like what you see in movies. We saw some interesting things. There were even two check points we passed through, one with guards with large weapons in hand. Tourism is protected out here and appears highly coordinated. It was the most authentic cultural tour I have been on (no tourist spots, but through and in local towns and beaches); however, we felt very safe. Bring cash as the many of the stops do not take credit cards. And the organic, unprocessed Cacao, coffee, cinnamon, rum from the farm/typical house are $10 to $20 each.

Not at all what we expected - The other quests are what saved this trip for us. The tour was supposed to be a 5 hour tour and we were gone nine hours. Way too long! Tour info said could swim by the river when stopped for lunch but were told we couldn’t. Water looked dirty so wasn’t very inviting anyway. Stopped at a souvenir shop near the open air market and it was just the same stuff you see in cheesy tourist traps. Time in the open air market was just a quick walk down one side of the street and back the other side. No time to really explore or shop. While we requested an English speaking tour guide, we did not get one. Our guide and driver both did not speak English so we drove in silence. Nothing about the surroundings was pointed out as we drove by. At some of the stops there was another van group from the same company and they had an English speaking guide so we joined them and got to get a few tidbits of information. The beach stop while short was good. We ordered pina coladas at the bar which were made from fresh pineapple blended with coconut and rum then put back into the pineapple. On our way back to the resort, we stopped at an upscale souvenir shop. The items sold were lovely but by that time we were tired ready to gat back to the resort.
