Additional Information

For a real taste of Caribbean culture, look no further than this full day bus tour around the Dominican Republic. You’ll visit remote villages while learning all about local produce and history.

The adventure kicks off as your guide regales you with the history of the island while we journey through cattle grazing lands and rice fields. You’ll drive by a typical rural school, on route to tour some of the island’s coffee, cocoa and sugar cane plantations.

Head on to Higuey, and you’ll see the famous Altagracia Basilica – a pilgrimage site because of its miraculous image of Our Lady – before a wander around the bustling market. Check out the views of the Cordillera Oriental mountains before we round off with a beach stop and lunch in a local restaurant. There’s also the option of a half-day tour that packs in plenty of fun highlights, but skips lunch and Altagracia Basilica.

A Great Insight into Dominican Culture - I took the half-day tour to Higüey and it was the highlight of my stay in the Dominican Republic! Our tour guide was Andy and he was very engaging, friendly, and informative. The bartender and driver were also incredible and very kind. It is a very touristy tour but absolutely worth it and an excellent way to learn more about the Dominican Republic and the Dominican culture.

Unforgettable and typically local - A breathtaking experience, far from the beaten tourist trail. A succession of local and typical spots: cathedral and local market in Higüey, stop in a field of sugar canes with explanations and tasting, visit to a cigar factory, visit to a family house stop on the beach of Macao, passage in the den of a shaman practicing "white" voodoo, all carried out in a typical school bus, in its own juice, masterfully piloted by Francisco. I can't say how many liters of rum and mamajuana we were able to down, but it all ended with dancing on the bus in the pouring rain, which we will remember fondly, thanks to Mama's sympathy and good humor. Gina and Ruth's swaying on the bachatas! It's the first time that Mama Gina had a Greek on her bus, a merengue lover!

I highly recommend, a very complete cultural outing! - Very good excursion aboard this highly colorful bus to discover the hinterland and local life. I highly recommend! A very complete outing in a friendly atmosphere (discovery of the countryside, cocoa farm, local market, Higuey cathedral with its breathtaking architecture, cigar crafts, typical Dominican meal and Macau surf beach). You will not be disappointed! It is important to encourage this type of cultural excursion in order to participate in more sustainable and responsible tourism.

Pleasure and sharing excursion - Holla, Thanks to the Eco Caribe team: Ramona our Dancer, Francisco our driver and..... Mama Gina our guide. A crazy atmosphere throughout our excursion, around local tastings, dance, humor, anecdotes, advice and discovery of the region. A simple but good meal, pretty landscapes, magic ;), I recommend this excursion. Thank you Alexandre, Hélène and Christophe. PS: For our next visit, have the opportunity to taste more local fruits and dishes.
