We travelled as a group... - We travelled as a group of 6 (family) and had a great time with Melvin and team. The early start is definitely worth it as arrive at the beaches before other groups. Melvin takes time to explain the history of the island/Dominican Republic which was very interesting to hear. A bonus was that he also took pictures of us all at every stop (without us asking!). We all had a great time and would highly recommend this over other tours - definitely worth it!

Phenomenal Trip - We booked the ‘Small Group Saona Island Full-Day Tour’ and were absolutely blown away—it was a phenomenal experience from start to finish!
Melvin, our tour guide, was the standout highlight. He is truly the best guide we’ve encountered—highly experienced, knowledgeable about the history of the islands, as well as the local wildlife, plants, and conservation efforts.
The day began with a seamless morning pickup, during which Melvin provided a clear and detailed explanation of the itinerary. The group was small and intimate, which made the entire experience feel exclusive.
Our first stop was a beach via a thrilling speedboat ride. This part of the island was serene, and we were fortunate to have it entirely to ourselves for a delightful breakfast. Melvin’s inclusion of this part of Saona Island was thoughtful and unique, offering insight into how the locals live. We also visited the turtle sanctuary, where we were lucky enough to see baby turtles. Melvin explained the importance of turtle conservation, and it was both inspiring and educational. There was no pressure to buy anything, but we happily supported the cause by purchasing a few items from the small shop at the sanctuary.
The second and third beaches we visited were absolutely breathtaking, with crystal-clear turquoise waters and powdery white sand. Once again, thanks to Melvin’s thoughtful planning, we were the first to arrive, enjoying these idyllic spots without the crowds. Throughout the day, Melvin and his team kept us refreshed with a selection of ice-cold drinks. We had plenty of time to relax, swim, and soak in the surroundings.
Lunch was another highlight—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly timed. We loved the private area on the beach that Melvin and his team set up for our group.
Melvin’s strategic timing was impeccable. He made sure we left each spot just as the large crowds were arriving, which elevated the entire experience.
The final stops were magical: snorkeling in the natural pools to see the starfish was an unforgettable experience. On our way back, we also had the chance to snorkel at the reefs near the marina.
This tour was flawless in every way, thanks to Melvin’s attention to detail and genuine passion for creating memorable experiences. It was worth every penny, and I really don’t think you will find another tour like it. Don’t hesitate to book!

Nothing wrong, just perfect! - Book this tour definitely, the super reviews are justified. We chose the small group because we expected that you would be full of group trips on the catamaran or similar and from experience we were absolutely right. The trip with this smaller group and the guide more than exceeded our expectations, there really is nothing to suspend. Everything was flawless and we had an unforgettable experience. The tour guide was always very friendly, attentive and left us no wish unfulfilled. The journey starts very early but with good reason, we were always the first group on site and as soon as we were just before the end of the respective stop we realized how crowded it became and so we could experience all the activities first and most importantly almost alone, without a huge crowd of people. The guide also told us the story and generally a lot about the country which we appreciated very much, a lot of knowledge was transmitted what remains for life. Really a 10/10 and nothing to complain about, you'd rather pay a little more for it you have an unforgettable experience, it's definitely worth it!

Amazing 10/10 - Melvin was an amazing tour guide. The whole process you could tell was very thoughtful, as it was a lot more private and intimate. You missed the big groups, and the beaches were quiet. Later on the big party boats came through, but we had already been on the island for some time and enjoyed the peace and quiet in the mean time. Definitely worth paying the extra few bucks. Probably one of the best excursions I’ve been on. The turtle sanctuary was my absolute favourite. The whole thing was roughly 11 hours long though, so make sure you get a really good nights rest the night before. Thank you so much!

I'LL NEVER FORGET THIS HEAVEN AND THIS TOUR - You can book a tour for 60-70$ and spend time in a crowded bus and boat, travel around 6 hours just to stay one hour on one crowded beach in Saona, and three hours in a souvenir shops, or you can take this tour with wonderful Melvin.
It costs much more than other tours and trust me, it's extremely cheap for what you get: you have small tour, speed boat, guide (and guys on boat) who is totally dedicated to you, explains everything in English and Spanish if it's needed. He will bring you early in the morning so there is nobody but you on places that you are visiting.
You'll see the only place on Saona island where people live. You will visit a turtle sanctuary and if you are lucky (we were) see baby turtles, and you will receive a gift from Melvin (he support turtle sanctuary and buys a gift for you there).
You'll have a private space only for your small group where you can relax on a beaches (you are visiting 5 places!!! 3 beaches!!!) He will bring you to see how turtles live freely in this beautiful see, and bring you to natural pools where he will take pictures of you with starfishes,he will provide for you snorkeling equipment and take you to swim with beautiful colorful fishes... Saona island is heaven on earth and there is no way you can experience without tour like this.
He's totally dedicated to his job: Taking pictures of you, going in a water with his phone just to take pictures, sending it to you, offering you drinks, breakfast, lunch and even tell you to call him if you ever need anything in Dominican republic.
I just love how much he loves this island, his county, how much he love nature and animals. If you want to go and get drunk on a boat, this is not for you. If you want to experience all the beauty of this heaven called Saona island, BOOK NOW!!!!!!!!

I would come back without hesitation! - Excellent !!! Very cool everything. The tortoise is amazing what they do for the environment. It is a tour intended also to raise awareness about the environment and not trample on nature. The other boat tours are very massive and play very loud music and give a lot of alcohol. This is something else, small group of 12 pers, tell us the history of places, islands, customs, talk to locals and become aware of the atmosphere

Best excursion out there - This tour was simple amazing. Melvin was so friendly and knowledgeable. He sprinkled in history of the area with humor and made the whole trip memorable. He took pictures of the group and each of us individually that he shared at no extra cost as well. We started the day out early, and got ahead of every other group so nothing ever felt too crowded. He had areas of beaches reserved for us so our belongings were safe. He took a bunch of strangers when the trip started and made us all feel like family by the end. This trip is one of the more expensive ones, but trust when I say it’s worth every single penny and then some.

The best excursion ever!! - Melvin and his staff were absolutely amazing! From the moment we were picked up he was engaging, knowledgeable, and very helpful in all aspects.
An early beginning time allowed for empty beaches, low crowds and more enjoyable moments before the other tours arrived.
The breakfast and lunch was delicious!
Seeing the turtle conservation program was impressive! The highlight for us was the starfish at the natural pool… being able to interact and learn about the wildlife was an amazing experience!
Would absolutely do this excursion again and recommend it to anyone who asks.
