Senjokaku - The tour commences at Hiroshima Station at 9:00 AM. The guide will meet participants by the Shinkansen Gates beneath the Tourist Information sign.
The guide will assist in navigating the train and ferry journey to Miyajima, providing context and information about the island along the way.
Upon arrival at the pier, the group will walk to the first stop, Senjokaku Pavilion. This pavilion, originally intended as a shrine, remains unfinished to this day. Its unique design features spaciousness and an absence of formal entrances or exits, offering stunning views from all sides. The guide will explain the history and various elements within the shrine, and there will be time to relax and enjoy the island’s beautiful scenery.
- Itsukushima Shrine - The next destination is Itsukushima Shrine. The guide will share insights into Shintoism, Japan’s indigenous religion, and the shrine’s history. As participants explore the temple, they can observe the different worship halls, the distinctive architecture of the “floating shrine,” and the iconic O-torii gate in the Seto Inland Sea.
The guide will then lead a walk to Daisho-in Temple, a renowned Shingon Buddhist temple near Itsukushima Shrine. The temple grounds feature numerous Buddhist figures, with statues greeting visitors throughout. Various halls are scattered across the grounds, with Daishi Hall being particularly breathtaking, showcasing 88 statues representing the Shikoku Pilgrimage of 88 temples. The hall is illuminated by golden lanterns hanging from the ceiling, creating a stunning and unique atmosphere.
- Miyajima Ropeway - The itinerary continues to Omotesando Shopping Street, lined with shops and restaurants. Here, participants will have approximately two hours of free time to enjoy lunch and shop for souvenirs or other items. This is also an excellent opportunity to capture photos of the island’s many deer or take a leisurely stroll along the seaside.
The final main destination is Mount Misen, the highest point on Miyajima. Accompanied by the guide, participants will take the Miyajima Ropeway to the mountain’s summit, enjoying spectacular aerial views of the island from the cabin.
- Mt. Misen - At the summit, there is an option to stay at the Shishiiwa Observatory near the ropeway station or hike to the Mt. Misen Observatory at the peak. The guide will accompany participants on this hike, highlighting the diverse landscapes, natural formations, and various halls. Although the hike is steep and challenging, the unobstructed view from the top is truly rewarding. The guide will ensure ample breaks are taken, and there is always the option to return to the ropeway station while others complete the hike.
At the conclusion of the tour, there will be a brief period of free time to explore before returning to Hiroshima Station.
