Highlights
  • The Independence Palace - Reunification Palace During the “Fall of Saigon” in 1975, communist Vietnam gained its freedom. Numerous landmarks from the period may be found. An interesting monster constructed in the 1960s with Soviet assistance is the Reunification Palace (previously the Presidential Palace). Still standing in the front yard is the tank that symbolizes ‘The Fall,’ which blasted through its gates on April 30, 1975.
  • Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral - Known as the ‘Paris of the East,’ Saigon’s Notre Dame Cathedral is a sight to behold. Its twin towers, constructed from bricks imported from Marseille, France, are easily identifiable. Don’t miss the opportunity to take stunning photos of Vietnam’s expansive, modern metropolis by visiting the Post Office.
  • War Remnants Museum - The year 1975 marked the public opening of the War Remnants Museum located in Ho Chi Minh City. It is a gloomy reflection of the long and horrible Vietnam War and was formerly known as the “Museum of American War Crimes.” There are pictures of US military hardware on display. There is an assault plane with a single seat, a fighter jet, a tank, and a rocket-launching helicopter. Additionally, a conventional bomb weighing 6,800 kg is shown. American soldiers used these weapons against the Vietnamese between 1945 and 1975.
  • Central Post Office - Perhaps the nicest post office in Southeast Asia is the Central Post Office in Ho Chi Minh City, a stunningly maintained example of French colonial architecture. When viewed in tandem, the two cultural sites—which are close to Notre Dame Cathedral—allow tourists to experience life in Vietnam under the Indochinese Empire. Built by Alfred Foulhoux, the building features wooden shutters and arched windows, much like it did in the late 1800s when it was first constructed.
