In his final note, he wrote: “I respectfully plead to President Ngo Dinh Diem to take a mind of compassion towards the people of the nation and implement religious equality to maintain the strength of the homeland eternally.” In 2010, a memorial depicting the monk engulfed in flames was erected at the very spot where he died fifty years earlier.
