Beautiful excursion between rice paddies and very authentic local villages - Except the night bus, which I recommend taking the cabin, we are delighted!!! The guide (called Cat) has been lovely and very attentive. The sleeping place (anh duc homestay) was very well maintained, clean, and with good service. Despite being a "tourist", the village is still great and is not artificial, the local culture is perfectly appreciated Very happy overall

A Must-Do Experience - This was a great trip, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a more unique travel experience visiting some of Vietnam’s rural villages. Our guide, Cat, was very insightful and knowledgable about her and the other local tribes, and it was really cool to learn what life is like in rural Vietnam. The trip starts with a 6-hour night bus ride from Hanoi, which is an experience on its own! The seats are definitely on the smaller side - if you’re 6’ or taller, it won’t be the most comfortable ride. Having said that, we had a different sleeper bus on the ride back, which had slightly bigger and more comfortable seats - I actually slept almost the whole ride back even though it was day/evening time. so it may just depend on which bus you get. The highlight of the trip is obviously trekking through the mountains turned to terraced rice patties, a beautiful site no matter what season you visit. We visited in December, so it was definitely on the wetter/cooler side. We rented rain boots from a local shop in Sa Pa, which saved us from having to toss our shoes. I would definitely recommend this if you aren’t prepared to completely cover your own shoes/boots in mud. The hiking trail this time of year is very muddy and slick, but honestly pretty fun to navigate through. Our guide and some other local villagers assisted us throughout the more challenging spots. It is worth noting the other village women will try to sell you handmade goods once you’re through the tougher part of the trek - it’s up to you whether to buy anything or not. However, they were extremely helpful and nice people, and it’s a pleasure they are willing to share their home with strangers. Our homestay was cozy. The owners were very nice and welcoming, and the bungalows where couples stay were great. However, as I mentioned earlier, it was cold during our visit, and the rooms do not have heat. So make sure you prepare accordingly! There was a heating mat under the sheets in the bed, which made sleeping comfortable. But otherwise, the rooms were chilly. If you went a different time of year, it would be more comfortable (the room had a fan for warmer months). If you visit Hanoi, particularly during the May-September timeframe when the rice fields are full, this is a must-do trip!

A Must Do Experience! - We thoroughly enjoyed our trekking adventure through the villages outside Sa Pa, with Cat as our guide. She was very knowledgeable and insightful to hers and the other local tribes’ custom, traditions, and history. The mountains and rice fields surrounding this area are breathtaking, and it’s really cool to see all the buffalo, chickens, and other animals roaming freely. The home stay was welcoming, though chilly in the winter months! Pack appropriately!

Very kind tour guide - Cat was an excellent guide. I am quite unfit and there were locals there with her to assist me with some of the tricky obstacles. The views are definitely worth the effort! We went the “nature” option and it was beautiful.
