Highlights

Ha Giang - Quan Ba - Du Gia Village (120km)

Quan Ba Heaven Gate - After breakfast, we start driving to 4C highway “Road of happiness” and take photo at “Km0”, then we get out of the city and head to the North. We climb up the Quan Ba mountain pass and enter the Dong Van Geopark then reach the Heaven’s Gate and pass the Fairy Hills. In or around the small town of Tam Son we find our lunch. There after we venture deep into Ha Giang mountains and reach the picturesque village of Du Gia. Here we will stay with an ethnic minority family at their homestay. We will have dinner and breakfast with the family. (Today includes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Tam Son - In or around the small town of Tam Son we find our lunch.

Du Gia - Du Gia is an unknown quiet village in Ha Giang. This place is visited almost exclusively by travelers who do the Ha Giang loop in 4 days or more. The best thing about this place is the peaceful and unspoiled beauty with its majestic natural landscape of mountains and rice paddies around it. In addition, the local people here are exceptionally hospitable and friendly.

Du Gia - Meo Vac - Nho Que river - Ma Pi Leng homestay (150km)

Nho Que River - We say thanks to the family of the homestay and head to the north, passing some of the most magnificent mountain passes you will ever have seen, into the town of Meo Vac (where we take lunch). Then you will take a boat trip on Nho Que river that passes through Tu San Abyss Alley and runs along Ma Pi Leng mountains. Lastly, you will move up the majestic Ma Pi Leng mountain pass and check in our homestay. Free time to relax or walking around Old Hmong village to know more about local people’s life. Dinner and overnight at homestay. (Today includes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Ma Pi Leng Pass - The Ma Pi Leng pass is the most impressive mountain pass in Vietnam at an altitude of 1,500 meters. It is located between Dong Van and Meo Vac, two cities in the far north of Vietnam in Ha Giang province, close to the border with China. It is the most amazing mountain road in all of Vietnam. It lies along the asphalted national road 4C with the nickname “The Happiness Road”. The road was built in the 60s by a lot of workers, mainly ethnic minorities from the area. It took 11 years to finish the whole road. It is known as the King of Vietnamese mountain passes. There are cliffs and abysses almost everywhere along the route and enough hairpin bends to get dizzy. The road along the mountainside has a romantic, breathtaking landscape that is ideal for motorcycling. The road to the top, considered “the Great Wall of Vietnam”, feels like a scene from a fairy tale.

Ma Pi Leng - Dong Van - Lung Cu - Sa Phin - Yen Minh - Nam Dam Village (120km)

Dong Van - If we are waking up on a Sunday in Dong Van the weekly big local market meets you before or after a breakfast. More ethnic minority groups than you can count have travelled on Saturday or extremely early on Sunday to reach here. Really colorful and people from near and far to do their weekly shopping and gossiping. Thereafter, we go to the North Pole. Anyway, that is what the most northern point of Vietnam is jokingly called – Lung Cu. We can climb the Lung Cu Flagpole and view China from the top, then we turn to the south and when we reach Sa Phin to visit the one-hundred-year-old palace of Vuong Chinh Duc – the King of H’mong people. We go down the Highland of Stone and reach Yen Minh where we take lunch and then climb a mountain pass covered in pine forest and sweeping rice terraces along our drive. Down to the Song La valley until the road takes us towards the village of Nam Dam where we check in with a lovely Dao ethnic minority family in their home and enjoy dinner and breakfast

Lung Cu Flag Tower - The Lung Cu flag tower is a 33 meter high tower with a 54 square meter flag on the most northern point of Vietnam in the province of Ha Giang.

Yen Minh - A small town in northern Vietnam, Yen Minh often forms part of the trails followed by the many tourists who travel around the north east of the country.

Nam Dam - Lung Khuy cave - Tam Son - Ha Giang (70km)

Lung Khuy Cave - We enjoy village life after breakfast, walk around the village and might go up to the local waterfall. Then we go and explore the Lung Khuy cave. We take lunch in Tam Son after which we will explore a stunningly beautiful side-loop that connect us back to Road of Happiness and back to our base in Ha Giang city, where we will get on the bus back to Hanoi. Tour ends. (Today includes Breakfast, Lunch).

Tam Son - The town of Tam Son is the capital of Quan Ba, and is often the first stop travelers make in the district. The town, like most others in the province, is surrounded by karst mountains, two of which are known as the “Twin Mountains” and are closely tied to a local legend that we won’t spoil for you here, as hearing it for the first time as you watch the valley from atop the peak is a key part of the experience.

The best tour with Học and Dai! - I went on this tour with my friend and our riders were Học and Dai. They were absolutely amazing!! I felt safe the whole time, and I’ve not been on a bike before. The rides would take photos and videos of us and made a love slide show for us! It was also my friends birthday and last minute Học and Dai ordered a cake which was a very good price and we celebrated at the homestay, they put so much thought into the celebration and fresh cake. The riders made us feel so comfortable and we were extremely lucky to have them as they made this trip so amazing! The loop and the places and views we saw are amazing! We get enough time to relax there and take photos. The food is also amazing! I would 100% recommend this tour, especially with Dai and Học as riders. I would do this again, thank you so much for the best time! 🤩

They made us feel really safe and they are very experienced riders. They took many photos of us and we had the most incredible 4 days with them. The company is lucky to have 2 amazing friendly drivers. Thanks again!

Amazing cultural experience with safe and friendly guides - I had a really amazing experience with Ha Giang Backpackers Tour! My guide/driver was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and made time to party with us in the evening. I was also never concerned for my safety as my driver had 12 years of experience and was very cautious on the more difficult sections. The homestay’s were great as well. The first night was more touristy with a pool and other groups to party with while the next nights were in a small village with a local hmong family who provided a great cultural experience which I really enjoyed! I highly recommend doing the loop with this tour group as you get a much better cultural experience than you get with the bigger tour groups.

We went to amazing places, felt really safe on the bikes during all the tour. Also the accommodations and food places were we stoped were very good and local and not the typical places full of tourist. Ha giang loop - This was an amazing experience!! We looked for the perfect time to go and had the best weather possible. The drivers were nice, patient and very helpful. They made sure you were comfortable and even provided clothing against the rain. The group was very small and my friends and I were the only ones to do the 4 days, so we eventually had a private tour. The drivers showed us a lot of spots. The homestays we stayed in were always clean and provided delicious food. I would definitely recommend this tour if you wish to see more of ha giang and to do it on a slower pace with smaller groups.

4 day Ha Giang motor bike tour - Huy and Canh have been awesome. Always went out of the way to make sure we were having a good time. Very accommodating to our needs. We felt very safe on the back of both their bikes. Homestays were lovely and we always had plenty of food were ever we stopped. Would recommend this tour and our great drivers 👍

Rode without a group due to not having International Driving license - My experience is a bit unique as I wanted to ride the bike myself, but I didn't realize that to ride solo you needed an international drivers license. The day of I realized this and Tuan was very acommodating, dedicating his time to make sure I was ready to ride solo. However, he told me that I would have to ride separate from the group because of this, so I ended up just riding alone with my guide, who was very nice but did not speak English. This was a really bad experience because the social part of the Ha Giang loop is a highlight for almost everyone, yet I had the opposite and was quite lonely because of it. When tuan told me I was going to ride separate from the group, I thought that meant that while I would ride solo, I would still stay in the same places at night to have a social experience. I still don't understand why that wasn't the case. It seemed completely unnecessary for me not to stay with the group. Perhaps no one else signed up for the tour and the riding solo thing was just an excuse? I'm not sure. To make matters worse, I spoke to a lot of other travelers and found out that many of them were able to ride solo without an international drivers license, and still ride with a group. Also, I think that 4 days is too long. In the extra day we didn't do anything worth doing in my opinion, but maybe that was just less fun because of the awkwardness of my situation. To summarize, while I do appreciate Tuan trying to accomodate me, the experience was much less fun than if I was with a different tour. If you are a potential customer reading this, understand that this might not apply to you as my situation was unique, so give him a chance! I just wanted to document my experience. My advice to Tuan is, mention in the description of this tour that you need an international drivers license to ride solo so that there are no surprises for customers. Also, try to do everything you can to avoid your customers riding without a group, because it was much less fun due to that.
