Hoa Lu ancient capital: In 968, Dinh Bo Linh proclaimed himself King, establishing Hoa Lu as the capital for the next 41 years (968 – 1009). The first 12 years were under the Dinh dynasty with King Dinh Tien Hoang, during which the country was named Dai Co Viet. The subsequent 29 years were under the Le dynasty with King Le Dai Hanh. In 1010, King Ly Thai To relocated the capital from Hoa Lu to Thang Long, now known as Hanoi, turning Hoa Lu into an old citadel. Today, two temples stand on the site of the former royal palace, one dedicated to King Dinh Tien Hoang and the other to King Le Dai Hanh. Visiting these temples provides insight into the feudal dynasties and historical periods of Vietnam.
