Highlights
  • Bach Ma Temple - In the middle of the Old Quarter, Bach Ma Temple is one of the oldest and holiest temples in the city, which was originally founded in the 9th century.
The translation of Bach Ma is White Horse and this refers to a story behind the construction of the Temple. King Ly Thai To had been struggling to build the temple as its walls kept collapsing. It is said that a white horse delineated the best area to build the temple with its hooves to help the king in constructing the temple.
Entering the temple through some ancient wooden doors after which you will be able to see the beautifully decorated interior and a red-lacquered funeral palanquin. Inside the temple, you will find a statue of the white horse, a shrine to Confucius, and a Phoenix Altar for offerings to the four seasons. Bach Ma Temple is still actively used by worshippers who come here to burn incense and pray.

Excellent tour with Kien Pham - Kien Pham met us at the meeting point on time. He took us around the old quarter as per the itinerary and explained to us everything in great detail. His grasp of English, knowledge of history and sense of humor was excellent. We were offered complimentary refreshments during breaks throughout the tour. Overall an excellent experience.

Hidden gems of Hanoi - My sons and really enjoyed our afternoon walking tour with Mina. We saw and experienced things that you would never find without a guide. She was very informative and friendly. This was recommended to us by a tour guide we met in Ho Chi Minh City. Would highly recommend this tour.

A fun and eye-opening tour of Hanoi! - It’s our first time going to Vietnam and we can only explore Hanoi due to the limited time we have. So my sister booked us a walking tour in the One Trip by Local website. The tour company made sure we understood where to meet our guide, photos and all and our guide was Mina contacted us the day before the tour to confirm everything. So communication was great! We met Mina and we already know the vibes was going to be great just by meeting her, I think it helped that we’re somewhat in the same age group. She was more than punctual, we got there early and she was already there! We started off the tour with the view of the city on the rooftop of a hotel and got some amazing coffee afterwards and we learned and discussed Vietnam’s history. Mina’s storytelling was clear, you can see she’s so passionate about her country and history. But what really stood out for us was the honesty she presented, learning about the horrors Vietnam has suffered at the hands of colonizers and invaders. After having the eye-opening history lesson with our coffee, we headed to explore the city. She brought us to different places, from historical buildings to narrow alleyways! Giving us the background and history of each place and how it functions now in the present. And she offered to take our photos multiple times as well. She may not be everyone’s cup of tea but she certainly was ours! To hear it from a local’s point of view is both educational and fascinating. We learned so much from the short time we had with her!

A great way to see Hanoi Old Quarter through the eyes of a local - Our tour of the Old Quarter with our local guide Lana went way beyond what we expected. The two hours passed so quickly, with lots of variety of experience. We started out sampling local egg coffee at a fascinating coffee house at 11 Hang Gai- what a hidden oasis! Then we explored some of the Old Quarter streets, gaining lots of local tips from Lana. We sampled local food, toured the beautiful traditional house at 87 Ma May and just as our energy was flagging, Lana organised a Xich Lo tour back to our meeting place. This was a very well structured and informative tour, with a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide- great value and very entertaining.

The old quarters walking tour - Cong was an excellent guide, he shared his knowledge of The old quarters which would have been hard to do on our own as this area is a maze of narrow streets and alleys, would highly recommend this tour as a quick insight to this area.

Great way to experience Hanoi with so much insight - This tour was way beyond what we had expected. The history, the personal stories, the sights, the smells, the tastes, the contrasts - all combined to make it an incredible experience. Many thanks to Quang for a chance to taste the best banh mi in town.

Don’t miss the best way to enjoy Hanoi in one evening with a great guide! - Can’t say enough about our wonderful evening with Niki as our guide through Hanoi old quarter! In 3 hours we stopped at 7 wonderful “street food” spots and learned and tasted and bantered with the locals. It was our second trip to Hanoi and we experienced so many things we hadn’t done before. Niki’s great enthusiasm and knowledge of her country made for a great evening.
