Hanoi Old Quarter Street Food Tour: Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine Experience

Gordon Ramsay’s ‘immortal’ sayings about Vietnamese cuisine: ‘Thank God I wasn’t born in Vietnam, I’m just a bad cook here’ or ‘Vietnamese people don’t realize how their very cheap dishes have high culinary standards’ . It is no exaggeration to say that Vietnamese cuisine has long conquered many foreign guests

Great introduction to local cuisine - Tonight we were escorted by our lovely guide Sophie to a number of local restaurants in the old quarter to taste some new flavours. Sophie determined what we had previously experienced and selected a number of dishes that were new for us. Sophie was helpful, polite and very informative. We very much enjoyed our evening and would like to thank Sophie and recommend this tour to others.

Exceptional experience with fabulous guide! - Our guide, Tam, was so incredibly engaging, smart, funny and well informed. He gave us access to the best street foods, but more, he helped us negotiate prices from vendors, took us to the wholesale marketplace and educated us about Communist history and influence, including insights about Chinese dominance, French-Vietnamese history and the feeling towards Americans after the Vietnam war. He was so open, culturally insightful and wise, and just a lot of fun to spend time with. While the tour says free, tipping is expected. Hotel told me $20-30 US is appropriate. Tam (pronounced Tom) stayed with us for four hours although the reservation was just for 2-3 hours. I do not recommend this for people with small children or for those with disabilities...you must be able to cross cobbled, congested streets without traffic lights, sidewalks, or any other form of safety, and to enter massive traffic and not hesitate. Scary but he is a protective guide and taught us how to survive these streets. He was truly an A+ experience! Thank you, Tam!

Great way to see/eat through the old quarter! - Little Tea helped with organizing the food tour. She set me up with a guide and we went and ate our way through the Old Quarter! Little Tea is very responsive and delightful to speak with.

Mr Rick Rand - Thaan our guide was a lovely and accomodating young lady. It was her first English speaking tour. She is still learning English and communication was somewhat difficult. It probably would have been best to have sent her with another guide first to learn the route and itinerary. All in all we did very much enjoy the tour.
