Great day out - Great trip. Guides were fantastic. The views were magical. We did the pagoda, then the bike ride for about 30 mins (all flat terrain) in the midst of paddy fields and magical scenery. Then a great buffet lunch in an air conditioned restaurant. Then off to the boat trip where we did route 2 which was about 90 minutes with a stop at a temple half away round. Just about right as the other trips were either 2 or 3 hours long which would have been too long in my opinion. You still get to see the good stuff on route 2 including the temples, 4 caves and kong island (the film set from the film). Then finish off on the 500 step hike up ‘dancing mountain’ as it’s known (Hang Mua) which was great if you are fit. I’m early 50s and run/jog often and found it ok but it’s not that easy at the top trying to hike up the final steps, especially with the crowds, but you are rewarded with the best views. The trip is long as it’s a good 2 hours to get from Hanoi to Ninh Binh but you do stop off enroute for refreshment/toilet breaks. Bring extra water, a fan and I would suggest a small towel in the hotter months as it is a sweatbox in places, but the air conditioning in the coach keeps you cool most of the time. This is a great value tour and I highly recommend this trip.
