AMAZING! - Our party of eight enjoyed a fantastic whale watching tour with Captain Denise a couple weeks ago. She was a fabulous guide and shared stories about life as a local as well as from her native heritage. She also successfully found a pod of whales for us to watch. We were basically surrounded by whales that were breaching, playing and singing for us. It was AMAZING!

Mother and Calf right beside our boat - Brilliant trip - Paul knew exactly where the Humpback mothers and calves come to feed every year and we made straight for that stretch of coast.Around a dozen whales in a small area with a mother and calf that came right up to our boat.I know that is just good luck but still, there were so many whales so close, that some sort of encounter or action (breaching etc) was bound to happen. The calf was showing off his/her tail flipping and generally having a great time.Stunning.Very interesting commentary too about the humpback migration, Paul's own observations on the whales after many years of visiting them locally.I was a bit worried that the boat was quite small and it would be difficult for everyone to access the outdoor area for good viewing but it seemed to work ok.You sit inside on the journey out and back as the boat goes at top speed.

Outstanding cruise with Captain Paul - We booked this separately from the cruise excursion offerings based on the reviews we read, and are very glad we did. Captain Paul has an incredible depth of knowledge of the sea life, wildlife, and the geography of the area that he offers in a very entertaining and engaging style. His personal stories about life in Hoonah were also very compelling. This excursion really made us feel like we were in Alaska and gave us terrific insight into the local life style and culture. We saw whales, orcas, sea otters, a bear on the shore, all amid beautiful surroundings. This was one of the highlights of our whole trip - thanks to the crew, and thank you Captain Paul for a very fun experience!

Whales and Tales - Wow. This was an amazing whale watching tour. Our captain was Paul Comolli - and he was quite a character. He gave us so much information about the whales and Hoonah - and just told us a lot of amazing stories. We saw lots of whales - including humpback whales feeding in a circle, which is cool. We also saw sea lions playing. Three bears on shore. Which was all great. But his stories really made the experience. It was an experience that I won't forget.

The BEST Whale Watch - Booked this independent of our cruise, and we lucked out big time. Denise gave us a history of her clan and their migration to Hoonah. We only had 17 people on the boat. There was also a naturalist on board and a hydrophone to hear all the whales we saw...and boy did we see whales. Many thanks for this highlight of our trip!

Great whale watching - We had a great time. Captain Denise and first mate Carson were extremely knowledgeable of the culture and of whales. It was rainy but we were able to track a pod of whales and got great pics! We loved Hoohan and the people!

Thanks Hoonah Travel Adventures! - We took our family of 13 on a whale watching tour with Hoonah Travel Adventures in July 2024. Our boat captain was Paul, and his first mate was Johnathan. Both of these guys were super knowledgeable and made our trip really enjoyable. We learned all about the whales and other wildlife as well as what life is like living in Alaska. Paul and Johnathan took us all around to see tons of whales. The boat was clean and had plenty of seating as well as deck space for everyone to see the whales. The transportation back and forth from the cruise ship dock was on time and worked out well. We would totally recommend Hoonah Travel Adventures and want to thank Paul and Johnathan for such a great and memorable experience for our family. PF

Whales, oh yeah - Our group was 4 adults hoping/looking to see whales. We were not sure what to expect. We were pleased with the results. Paul filled the time to get to the area to see the whales with interesting stories about living in Hoonah. The lifestyle, the bears, and the differences to living in other places. The whole time on the boat was pleasant (even with the rainy weather!) and professionally operated. We saw many whales (more than we had expected) so we were pleased with the trip. We took Paul's advice and had the halibut tacos at the taco truck for lunch after the tour. They were delicious along with some loaded brisket fries! Overall we all enjoyed this tour and would recommend it.
