Trip through Samirabad - A beautiful tour in nature. Good footwear is needed. Take food and drink with you, where you can refill the water in the gorge.

Impressive hike with great guide - Pick up by bus near the hotel. After a short stopover with the possibility to strengthen for the hike we went into the Samaria gorge. The gorge is very impressive and beautiful with stony ground that is not for flip-flops with sensitive feet. After the hike we went back to the hotel by boat and bus. The tour guide was there the whole time and the "broom cart" so that everyone would find their way back from the ravine to the ship. The hike was recommended to us by Tarek Blah our Cretan Holidays contact on site at the hotel. It is also worth asking him for more insider tips. Thanks again for the great and extensive support on site! That's as good as it gets.

Samaria gap (well, let’s do it 🥵) - The trip is definitely worth it, but also intensive. Tour guide Claudia already indicated on the way that it is not just a walk. The first 4 km is quite style downhill over pebbles, but even after that it remains best downhill over pebbles. Only a little after halfway you enter the gorge itself, where it gets flatter but the boulders remain. The temperature in September is also still around 30 degrees. What we found a small disadvantage is the distance from Hersonissos to the gorge. The travel time is about 4.5 hours (single) including 2 x break and picking up other people. Especially back it is a long journey. We left at 05:00 and were back at 22:30. Also take into account muscle pain the next day 😅. Tip: make sure you have good (hiking) shoes.

Action before motivation - Great place to visit mountains. Because we don't have any mountains in our country. Information from guide is absolutely correct.

Abuse at restaurant meeting place - Enjoyed the gorge walk although it was challenging. I recommend renting the walking poles as they were really helpful. Major complaint at the end when you finished the walk. We were told to meet at Sumaria restaurant to receive ferry tickets from guide that we paid for at the beginning of the day at 4.30pm. We finished hike at 2 and went to beach for an hour and then ate at Calypso restaurant (great food). When we went to meet guide at Sumaria restaurant as organised by tour, owner of restaurant would not let us in and was verbally abusive as we hadn’t eaten at his restaurant. Happened to other people on same tour. A tour should not arrange a meeting place at a restaurant unless the meal is included as part of package/owner has agreed to it. Guide Ingrid was apologetic but said nothing to restaurant owner, she said it was organised by the “office” and it wasn’t up to her.
