Highlights
  • Carretera El Macao - Arena Gorda - After pickup and transportation to the ATV/buggy ranch, your group will gather to receive brief health and safety instructions from our friendly, knowledgeable tour guide. Then you will get on a horse for a 15-minute ride led by a tour guide. When you return, you will get on your ATV or buggy because it is time to go off-roading! In rally style in a caravan, you will travel on rough roads between forests and lush tropical gardens, making a stop at an organic farm. There, you will have an opportunity to taste and learn about Dominican treasures like coffee, green tea, chocolate, mamajuana (minimum drinking age is 18), and cigars. You will then drive to the next stop on the tour–a 25 ft. deep water cave. After some time enjoying this hidden gem and its refreshing waters, you will follow your tour guide as you drive to the spectacular Macao Beach. Worth the price - Overall, I had an enjoyable experience. It was extremely hot, so make sure to bring your sunscreen, hat or a scarf or some type of head covering with sunglasses. Also, if you choose the Buggies you will get extremely muddy/dirty more so than those who ride the ATVs. I would suggest bringing cash for food and drinks along the way because if you use your credit/debit card, they will add service fees and taxes. The horse ride was about 5/10 minutes long, but the bike rides were definitely at least two hours or so overall, it was worth the price.

Hard pass - So we booked the buggy/ATV plus horse back riding. We did the buggy tour. The buggies weren't impressive, Jamaica was way better. Kaya seemed to have better buggies. The buggies were old and there were no helmets. Then the order which we did it, since we gonna get mud on us as expected, we should've done cave then beach then the coffee tasting. That way we would get back to the ranch relatively clean. I had to ask about the horse back riding, the guys just gave us a quick spin on the road while the driver was hurrying us up. We couldn't even get changed properly nor get the pictures. Then at Macao beach the guys hustling was too much. They could have their own section and we visit and pick what we want. Also speaking to one Haitian guide he told me about how they're treated on the camp which is terrible. I'm so sorry I'm spent my money supporting inhumane treatment of humans. Honestly, the experience was not good and I would not recommend it to anyone.

2/5 - I came on my birthday, July 11 & I fell off a horse because the instructor didn't tighten the saddle, and while trying to help me up, he stepped on my hair. I was able to continue after falling off, but the instructor kept trying to avoid taking responsibility. We were rushed throughout the whole experience due to time constraints. I was in a group of four, and they charged us $80 ($20 each) for 52 pictures that they airdropped to me. They don't offer any free water or drinks; you have to pay for everything except the chocolate milk and Mama Juana shots. The ATVs were the best part of the experience.
