- Howick Falls - We depart from Durban at 7.30am and head inland reaching Howick Falls after an hour’s drive, a few kilometres past Pietermaritzburg. We viiew the Howick Falls in Howick which is quite amazing.
Howick Falls are simply breathtaking, and the deafening rush of water from the viewing deck is incredibly relaxing and mystifying at the same time. At 95m, they’re the same height as Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and date back to when Kwazulu Natal was first inhabited by man. Several arts and crafts stalls can be found on the viewing platform and along Morling Road which leads down to the falls.
- Nelson Mandela Capture Site - From Howick Falls we proceed a short distance to the Nelson Mandela Capture Site, just outside Howick. At Nelson Mandela Capture Site we visit the museum which is rich with South Africa’s liberation history as well as visit the Nelson Mandela monument.
Nelson Mandela was arrested on 5 August 1962 outside Howick, Natal, South Africa. He spent the next 27 years of his life in prison. The Nelson Mandela Capture Site commemorates this moment in history with a visitor centre and a world renowned sculpture.
- Drakensberg Mountains - From the Nelson Mandela Capture Site, we venture into the Midlands Meander en route to the Drakensberg. The Midlands Meander offers stunning landscape, a perfect country theme. We travel until we reach the Drakensberg.
In Drakensberg, we go on foot hiking on the foot of the mountains, this is quite an experience.
