Humpbacks and porpoises! - An absolutely amazing experience. The staff were great, very helpful and informative. They gave each person a waterproof jumpsuit and a raincoat, so we were warm and dry. We saw humpback whales, as well as a pod of porpoises jumping and playing. It was fantastic.

Not cheap, but the experience was worth it. - Salka Whale Watching is now part of North Sailing in Husavik. We went with a cutter because of back problems. This was fine to do, but it was beautiful calm weather. If your physical condition can handle the pounding of a rib, I would definitely consider it. You're faster and closer to the whales. Nevertheless, our experience with the cutter was also very nice. Whales are not many anymore in September, but we saw 2 of them pop up a number of times.
