Highlights
  • Yanzihkou Trail (Swallow Grotto) - At Yanzikou (Swallow Grotto) the rock cliffs of the Liwu River gorge seem to reach to heaven while the river runs its swiftest and the distance between the gorge walls so narrow that they almost seem to touch each other.

Along the Yanzikou (Swallow Grotto) trail you can enjoy the sights of the Liwu River from nearly straight above the water, the potholes on the cliff faces, the springs sprinkled along the lower parts of the walls, as well as the famous rock formation “Chieftain’s profile rock”.

  • Tunnel of Nine Turns Trail - The Tunnel of Nine Turns (Jiuqudong) Tunnel is the longest tunnel of the Central Cross-Island Highway, while the 700 meters long Tunnel of Nine Turns (Jiuqudong) Trail is the best part of Taroko Gorge. The trail snuggles against the tall mountain and deep gorge. If you look down, you will see Liwu River gushing swiftly past the mountain walls facing each other so closely. You will be astonished at the craftsmanship of nature that has created these treacherous terrains.
  • Cihmu Bridge - Cimu Bridge(Motherly Devotion Bridge), which is an H-Shape hanging bridge with marble stone lions on each end and with marble lotus stones on two sides. The rock beneath the bridge looks like a frog. The frog-like rock is composed of black layer of schist at the top and white marble at the bottom. A pavilion was built on this frog rock, becoming the crown on the frog.
  • Eternal Spring Shrine - Eternal Spring Shrine, also called Changchun Shrine is a landmark and a memorial shrine complex in Taroko National Park . It is one of the major picturesque points of the park, with the view of the mountains and the waterfall, and one of the main memorials for veterans.
  • Shakadang Trail - Shakadang Trail is also known as “Mysterious Valley Trail” . This trail is built along the river cliff so you can easily observe both the rock folds and plant ecosystem beside in the river valley. In May, it is the season when Tung tree flowers bloom, making the trail a pleasant flower hallway with flowers filling the air like snow flakes.
  • Chishingtan Scenic Area - Chishingtan Beach sits on a beautiful part of the Haulien coastline, a crescent bay to the north of Hualien City. The pebbly beach faces the Pacific and is flanked by green-covered mountains.

Chishingtan translates as Seven Stars Lake and is a reference to an area near Hualien Airport that used to feature seven small lakes. However, these were filled in by the Japanese during their occupation of the island.

you can enjoy a stroll by the water’s edge and then sit and gaze out at the Pacific.

An excellent trip with an excellent guide - Allen couldn’t have been more helpful. He was in touch before the trip to arrange pick up from the Port. He then made sure we had such a good day. He was full of stories and facts about the trip. We loved the scenery and the walking. It was just stunning.

Beautiful gorge tour - Allen was an Amazing guide. He spoke great English and was very knowledgeable. He gave us many history lessons and stories. He dropped us off at many trails and gave us clear instructions on how to navigate. The gorge is small and narrow. He had to manage the vehicle while we walked. He was always waiting for us. We felt safe and well cared for. There is no way to see this gorge on your own or by using the bus. I highly recommend taking this tour.

Book with Allen! -- We loved our tour (: - This was a fantastic experience! Allen knows so much as a local guide and we learned a lot about the history of Taroko and Hualien! A private tour with Allen is one of the best ways to explore the park as well as the beaches! The tour was varied with Allen accompaning us on trails while also letting us explore on our own! He took the best pictures to capture our favorite moments! Allen is super accommodating with pick up and drop off at our hotel in Hualien. Taroko is stunning and Allen is a great guide!
