• Xiangshan Road - Meet our Tour Leader and fellow guests at our office located in a traditional Shanghainese Lane. After a brief introduction and a cup of tea or coffee, the walk begins!
• Fuxing Park - Your first stop is Fuxing Park, one of the most beautiful parks in town, designed over a century ago. In the morning, locals gather here to exercise, sing, or socialize. Enjoy the “happy retirement” atmosphere as our Tour Leader shares stories about the park and the Former French Concession.
• Nanchang Road - Next, you’ll leave the park to stroll down our favorite neighborhood street: Nanchang Road. This street exemplifies the typical Former French Concession with its blend of Western and Chinese architecture, small shops, and plane trees lining both sides. Our Tour Leader will share stories about traditional Shanghainese architecture and the area’s population from 100 years ago.
• Gaolan Road - After exploring Nanchang Road, you’ll arrive at the tranquil Gaolan Road, where you’ll visit a Former Russian Orthodox Church. Our Tour Leader will explain the history of Russians in Shanghai and why this area was once called “Little Moscow”.
• Ruijin Er Lu (Ruijin Second Road) - Next, you’ll cross a traditional Shanghainese neighborhood known as “lilong”. Escape the city’s hustle and bustle and enter a village-like area in the heart of Shanghai. Our Tour Leader will discuss the history of these lanes and urban development in Shanghai.
• Huaihai Road Commercial Street - Then, you’ll reach Huaihai Road, one of the main roads of the Former French Concession, once dubbed Shanghai’s “Champs Elysees”. Admire the stunning Art Deco architecture as our Tour Leader narrates the history of Art Deco in Shanghai and stories about the iconic Cathay Theater. You’ll also sample traditional Shanghainese snacks at a local bakery.
• Maoming Road - The final stop is sure to amaze you! Visit the Okura Garden Hotel, formerly the French Club 100 years ago. Explore the building’s beautiful Art Deco designs, hear fascinating stories, and enjoy a stunning view of the entire area.
