A soup dumpling knowledge feast - I joined veteran food journalist and author, Chris StCavish on this eye opening tour of four of Shanghai’s dumpling and noodle institutions. Despite many years being based in Shanghai, this was my first time visiting these heritage restaurants. To eat their delicious food whilst getting an account of their history, their subtle points of difference versus their competitors and how the families behind them have made them a success (and lost it all and make it back!) was fascinating. Whether you’ve been in China for ever or are new to the country this is a cool way of eating well, discovering new parts of Shanghai and learning from one of the most knowledgeable and passionate advocates for Chinese food there is, Chris StCavish.

Unique Food tour - A very delicious morning out with St Cavish + Co heading out to small family run shops that I would have never found or tried by myself. Chris is full of the most interesting facts and stories behind each of these places. A former chef and food critic himself he can accurately describe and inform on the process and technique behind each dish. This was such a fun morning, very relaxed and of course very filling! I would highly recommend to anyone travelling to Shanghai or groups of friends currently in Shanghai that would like to go off the trail and experience some hidden gems.

The most authentic experience in Shanghai - We had an amazing time with Chris as he guided us down back alleys and local dens to the best dumpling and Shanghai snack restaurants in town. Not only that, his stories and personal connection to Chinese food - meticulous and detailed - makes this tour especially rewarding. As a former chef and local critic, Chris is able to explain the intricacies behind the fillings, the dough and the people. The interesting stories, gathered from his many years writing articles and investigating the food scene, are what makes his tour so fun and interesting. And the food he introduced was amazing! A perfect tour not only for visitors, but even old Shanghai hands who want to make a half-day excursion with friends and family.
