Highlights

Huaraz – Llamac – Rondoy

Huayhuash - Pack your bags and depart from Huaraz to Llamac at 3350m around 9am, a journey of approximately 5 hours. From Huaraz, drive southward, crossing the wild paramo (puna) at Conococha pass at 4500m, passing the southernmost peaks of the Cordillera Blanca. The Huayhuash range, which boasts seven of the highest and most dramatic summits in Peru, becomes visible as we descend to the small town of Llamac. Continue ascending through the Pocpa valley to the typical peasant town of Pocpa at 3600m, the last town in this valley where we can buy some soda drinks for the sunny journey. After a few hours, around 2 pm, we will arrive at Pallca. From here, a half-hour trek will take us to our camping site at Rondoy at 4100m. From this vantage point, we can appreciate the Ninashanca Mountain at 5607m and Rondoy at 5870m. We will camp overnight at Rondoy at 4100m. The direct drive from Huaraz to Rondoy takes approximately 5 hours, plus one hour for lunch, covering around 167 km. L/D

Rondoy – Sambunya Pass 4750 - Jahuacocha

Huayhuash - After breakfast at the campsite, we will start hiking up a steep slope to Sambunya Pass. The hike, under the morning sun, takes about 3 hours to reach the pass at 4750m. The views of the mountains are stunning, and we will stop for photos if the weather is calm. If it is windy, we will continue our descent. As we go down, we will see the beautiful green lake of Soltero cocha, a wonderful sight. Beyond this lake is Jahuacocha, the most picturesque lake where our campsite is set up. We will arrive at the campsite, have dinner, and spend the night at Jahuacocha at 4200m.

Jahuacocha – Rasac / Rest Day

Huayhuash - Wake up at your leisure in this beautiful and relaxing campsite. We can go fishing and hike around the lake, heading towards Rasac Lake. After visiting Rasac Lake, we will continue to visit Solterococha. Today’s plan includes visiting two lakes before returning to the campsite in the afternoon. We will have dinner and spend the night at Jahuacocha Camp Place.
