Imperial citadel Hue - Our tour guide was amazing, she was very knowledgeable and friendly, and provided us with the best sights and avoided the crowds. She was soulful and had a wonderful grasp of English I would definitely encourage people to book this tour

Lots to look at! - Definitely a site worth seeing in Hue. Our guide Ha was very knowledgeable about the history. She was even patient with me when I was attempting to speak Vietnamese. Morning is best as it can get quite warm.

The best way to see the imperial city - Informative and entertaining private tour led by Tuan. He has amazing knowledge of ancient and modern Hue and is passionate about his city. We could not have asked for a better guide!

Flexible private tour - We had a perfect day in Hue doing a private tour. Easy communication and booking, payment was simple, no problem to modify the tour to suit our “list”and adventure requirements. Thuy, My and the driver were all professional, funny and thoughtful. Car was so clean and great safe driving, free water provided. The day flowed effortlessly with tour history and general chats about life in Vietnam. The guide My had perfect English and even got our kiwi jokes. Lovely lunch stop. Attention to detail and service was perfect. I will be recommending them to all my friends.

A great day out - One of the best private tours I have been on, laid back but professional and you are able to ask many questions that normally you cannot when part of a large group. Our guide My was a great conversationalist with excellent english and a good sense of humour. Recommended this highly

Private family tour of the imperial city - Wow, what a phenomenal tour! Ms. My, our fantastic funny, knowledgeable tour guide brought alive the Nguyen empire to our family. She really understands how to relate to kids and they rated this their favorite tour in Vietnam! We all learned so much about this import part of history, critical to understanding the relationship between the Vietnamese and the French. And that architecture! It was so fun to see the citadel and forbidden city and hear the (at times naughty) stories - kids got a kick out of all of it. Ms. My's command of English was top notch - best tour guide we have had.

Excellent private tour in all respects! - Bee Bee travel organized a great private guide (Ms. My) for my wife and our two friends of the Citadel, Imperial City, and the forbidden palace, though many other sites are available for customizing. Ms. My was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and sensitive to all our requests. Her English was excellent (she is a graduate of Hue Foreign Languages school) and her ability to relate the history of the Nguyen emperors to our experience as older (60’s) Americans was much appreciated. She also exceeded expectations by recommending some local foods (salt coffee –cà phê muối, clams with rice and a yogurt dessert – Cơm hến Hoa Đông and chè Huế bột lọc bọc heo quay) all at local spots free of tourists. They were all great! The very modest fee for attached to this private tour was a great value given her knowledge and ability to tailor the experience to our needs. That’s no doubt why Lonely Planet recommends them. Book them – you won’t be sorry.

A must see place in Heu - We are on a 24 day OAT tour of all of Vietnam We tour the citadel (Forbidden Purple City). This palace is somewhat like the Forbidden City in Beijing China but in no way as crowded with tourists (especially those pushing and yelling XXXXXX tourists). Again, this structure was once the private 3 miles by 3 Mile fortified wall city reserved for the emperor and family. The compound is MASSIVE (much bigger than the Forbidden City in Beijing China). THIS IS A MUST SEE location for anyone visiting Vietnam, but make sure you come here with a guide as just roaming around the grounds on your own, you will NOT relate well to all the history here. Our guide note if you wanted to visit all the buildings within the walled citadel it would take you 3 days of exploring. There is a massive water Moat around the 3X3 mile complex, and within its design was to be able to fend off invaders, and especially invaders at the time that had the ultimate weapon = Elephants!!!!

Underwhelming!! - We made the mistake of scheduling a 3 night stay in Hue during our Vietnam tour, as it was trumpetted as the Old Imperial capital city and alledged to be "well worth seeing". Actually that was a major disappointment, as the only thing worth seeing is the Old Palace taking just half-a-day. We stayed at the Melia Vinpearl within walking distance of most things. Excellent but pricey, particularly in-house dining. We deliberately timed our stay over a weekend when they temporarily close the main restaurant area to traffic. That area becomes a "weekend party". Bright, lively and colourful, mainly with Vietnamese families and well worth a visit. We had a private guided Palace tour which was informative but not particulary interesting. Like visiting a dull 19th Century French Chateaux, rather than a centries old IndoChinese fortress. The guide recited detai of the series of identikit puppet "Emperors" installed by the French colonists. So many "wives" & concubines, yet so few children....... The "Perfume River" is unattractive - green and silty. The "dragon boats" are so decrepit and noisy that we avoided them. Although to be fair Hue does look to have a construction program piling the riverbank for installation of extensive riverside walkways. In 5 years time these could be excellent and new river-side eateries could pop-up, which are currently missing.
