Thuan An, a village situated approximately 13km from Hue, is adjacent to the sole noteworthy beach of Hue. It is easily accessible, and if you’re up for it, a bike ride to reach it is quite enjoyable. The pathway offers views of the river, a few intriguing pagodas, community dwellings, and No village’s local bazaar, before crossing a bridge to a scenic long sandy stretch and lagoon where the Perfume River meets the ocean.
Follow the signs to the bustling beach area. If you’re not planning to eat at one of the myriad of seafood eateries, it’s preferable to sidestep this zone. It sees a lot of footfall from locals, evident during public holidays when a considerable chunk of Hue’s residents flock to Thuan An. The influx of people engulfs the beach, and the sea becomes peppered with groups of ‘swimmers’ kept afloat by inflated car tubes. The sand tends to be unclean, and apart from what restaurants provide, shade is non-existent.
