DOC MIEU FORTIFICATION
Over on the East side of Highway 1A, the Doc Mieu military base is nestled in Phong commune, Gio Linh, near Hien Luong Bridge. This was the point where the American-backed regime installed the McNamara electronic fence system, approximately 7 km south.
BEN HAI RIVER & THE HIEN LUONG BRIDGE
The Ben Hai River, positioned right in the heart of the DMZ area, is among Vietnam’s significant rivers. It served as a frontier boundary that separated the northern and southern regions of Vietnam between July 22, 1954, and April 29, 1975.
VINH MOC TUNNELS
The tunnels were designed into several different compartments including a delivery room (which saw the birth of 17 babies), kitchens, and living spaces. Additionally, a small, informative museum on site offers photographs of the tunnels’ construction and illustrations of the inhabitants’ subterranean lifestyle.
