Discovering Hum: The Smallest Town in the World

As a former professor of European history, I have always been drawn to the stories that ancient towns and cities have to tell. No visit to Istria would be complete without indulging in the region’s culinary delights. During my day trip, I had the pleasure of sampling some of the local specialties, including brandies, liqueurs, and jams produced at the Aura Distillery.

Located in a rustic cellar in Buzet, the distillery offers a unique insight into the production process of these traditional Istrian products. From fruit fermentation to distillation and aging, each step is carried out with meticulous care and attention to detail. The tasting room, with its warm and welcoming atmosphere, provided the perfect setting to savor these exquisite flavors.

As I enjoyed the rich and complex tastes of the brandies and liqueurs, I couldn’t help but reflect on the deep connection between Istria’s culinary heritage and its cultural identity. This experience was a fitting conclusion to a day filled with discovery and delight, leaving me with lasting memories of Istria’s rich heritage and vibrant traditions.
