Find a painted, raised relief of Bes near the Roman Gate of Dendera Temple of Hathor. Bes is the Egyptian household god who protected mother and child during childbirth. He is a bow-legged muscular dwarf with a ferocious facial expression. His guardianship role was suited to his appearance, which was supposed to frighten away evil spirits. Bes is a great hit with children!

Dendera Temple of Hathor is one of the most well-preserved ancient Egyptian temples. Plus, it was one of the most important religious centers in ancient Egypt. Dendera is situated on the west bank of the Nile, south of Qena in Upper Egypt. The temple is dedicated to the Goddess Hathor. Hathor personified the principles of joy, feminine love, and motherhood. In addition, Hathor was a major goddess in ancient Egypt.

The complex had three temples, or sanctuaries. Only the Temple of Hathor has survived intact.
