Amazing time- Ahmed sliem is the best guide! - Our trip was amazing! The boat is very nice and the food was great. Ahmed Sliem was an excellent guide. He was extremely knowledgeable. Being two single ladies my aunty and I were initially concerned, however Ahmed has looked after us very well, from buying us snacks and medicines, to giving us advice as to where and what to buy. I definately recommend Ahmed and love Egypt tours. Our holiday has been amazing.

Thank you, Mohamed! - I had a great 5-day, 4-night Nile River Cruise aboard the Hapi 5 ship with my guide, Mohamed. He was very kind, knowledgeable, generous, and patient.
I was traveling solo as a woman and felt safe with him the entire time. He never left my side and I appreciated his willingness to take my photos at every site.
I usually showed him where to stand for specific shots and he delivered with amazing pictures along with some creative ideas of his own!
The first day I was picked up at the Luxor airport where we embarked on our first tour. There was miscommunication that I would be stopping by the ship before the tour, so I would recommend changing beforehand once you arrive at the airport as I was not prepared and needed to stop somewhere to do so.
I had not eaten breakfast beforehand either since I had an early flight at 6 am, but Hass offered to stop somewhere. We visited Karnak and Luxor Temples, then I had the rest of the day to relax on the ship and have lunch.
The ship has a set schedule that is posted each day listing times for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea time, dinner, nightly entertainment, etc. I reviewed this each day as I had not received a printed itinerary from the company which would have been helpful for me to follow along with.
All meals are included except for drinks (including bottled water). I asked Mohamed if we could stop for bottles of water each day since they were cheaper outside of the ship (50 EGP for 2 medium and 2 large bottles vs. 90 EGP for one large bottle on the ship) and he was happy to do so.
The second day we visited Hatshepsut Temple and the Valley of the Kings, then sailed to Edfu overnight. It was not communicated that we would be traveling to Edfu Temple on the third day via horse carriage rather than in a vehicle as the other days, so make sure to communicate with your guide about the schedule each day so that you don’t bring extra items that you can’t leave in a van while on your tour and will have to carry around with you.
It was very dusty the entire way as well, so I’d recommend wearing a face covering so that you’re not inhaling all of the dirt flying around. We spent a few hours at the temple before heading back to the ship for lunch at 1 pm and departing for Kom Ombo.
We had an evening tour at Kom Ombo Temple, then sailed to Aswan overnight. On the fourth day I made a special request to visit Abu Simbel which I paid an additional $125 for. That was the only area visited given how far the drive was from Aswan - 4 hours one-way with a total of 8-hours roundtrip. We left early in the morning at 4 am, and did not arrive until after 8 am.
Two hours into the drive, we made a stop for restrooms and snacks, and stopped at the same place on the way back. I thought leaving this early would help beat the crowds, however, it was extremely busy with tourists, so if you’re looking to take photos (like I was) with barely anyone around, then I’d recommend looking into something else.
I arrived back at the ship close to 2:30 pm and thought that I would miss out on lunch, but luckily they were still serving food as others were also arriving back around the same time. I had the rest of the day to relax on the ship and walk around the area where there wasn’t much to see except for Old Aswan Market.
This was about a 15 minute walk across the street. On the last day, I brought my luggage to the van before we departed the ship at 8 am and visited the Unfinished Obelisk, then Philae Temple which is a 10-minute boat ride to the temple, and the High Dam. Lunch is not included this day, but Mohamed offered to stop somewhere if I wanted, then I was dropped off at the airport.
Overall, I had a great experience, but would have appreciated more communication, a detailed itinerary listing what exactly was happening each day with times included, and what transportation was included. I wasn’t aware that I would have the same driver for 3 days either, so I kept tipping him after each ride not knowing that I would see him again. It would have been easiest to tip him on the last day.
In addition, the food on the ship wasn't super great. It wasn’t Egyptian everyday. There was only one night which they considered “oriental night” where they served traditional Egyptian food, so I’d recommend buying snacks off of the ship if you don’t want to eat the same things everyday. The bread was quite stale and you have to sit in the same assigned spot at every meal most likely given that they want to offer you the same waiters throughout your stay. You get what you pay for pretty much..
