Best trip to Cairo - Hanan is a lovely guide, very interesting way of describing history and a lot of knowledge on current situation in Egypt. Really good time. She’s taken great care of me and my family and made sure we weren’t scammed out of money in Egypt. Really happy she’s been such a supportive guide.

The good, the bad and the ugly - Review Cairo Trip ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 Let’s start with that Hannah is a great guide. She is funny and honest about what awaits and how to handle it as a tourist without any experience. We visited Egypt for the first time and stayed in a resort in Hurghada. We booked this trip to get a glimpse of the real Egypt (outside of the safe walls of the resort), and got exactly that: the good the bad and the ugly. The 7hr bustrip is brutal, but worth it. You get to visit the Egyptian Museum, see the desert, Pyramids, camels, Sfinx, and cruise the Nile (some of it for a few extra euros, not unreasonable). All this is impressive, we had an amazing day that we will never forget. However: You must know that this trip contains upselling stops that were not listed, and you have to be prepared for it. During the trip you will make several stops at shops and places that will try to sell you all kinds of things. The sales men, sometimes aggressive adults, sometimes poor kids, can be pressing and will not stop until you run and hide inside your tourbus or until you cave and buy something. There will be times at which you will feel pressures into buying things you don’t want or need, or donate more than necessary. These guys are good, you have to be strong enough to say no. To consider before you book: - If you want a good tour to the pyramids, sfinx, Egyptian museum, this can be highly recommended. - If you have the willpower to overcome a brutal 7hr bustrip (Egyptian traffic is crazy, it’s hot, and probably filled with Germans), then this is the trip for you. - If you do not have the strength to decline at least 20 salesmen and scammers per hour, this trip is going to cost you more than it’s worth. Some tips from us: - Never touch the items being sold in the streets. The salesmen will try to “give” it to you for free, but once you’ve touched their items they will chase you until you give them money. They will walk with you for kilometers on end and can get really intimidating, so take this one seriously. - When someone looking like an authority asks for your ticket or passport, don’t open your bag and don’t show it to them. Tell them it’s with your guide in the tourbus and to follow you back to the bus: they won’t follow you back if they’re not actual authorities. - Never feel obligated to pay for a service like a toilet, especially if it’s bad (most of them are, bring tissues). You don’t owe no one any tip until you feel like they deserve it. Everyone will pressure you into tipping them, even people who aren’t actually working anywhere. - If you’re making a stop at a shop (e.g. the perfumery or papyrus factory) don’t get pressured into buying things you don’t want. If they’re too intimidating just get back to your bus. - Leave your jewellery at home, you don’t want to bring any extra attention to yourself. Caïro is beautiful but also very poor. Don’t let this scare you off. Caïro is a must-see. Just come prepared!

It could have been better - They contacted me on Whatsapp 1 day before with the details. Pickup time was 1 hour earlier at 00:30 from the hotel. After that we were still driving ca. 2 hours to pickup everyone. We arrived to the Museum before 9 and that´s where the tour guides joined us. We had 3-4 different one in our group. The German tour guide was nice and well-spoken. He gave us a quick tour in the museum, no free time to look around freely. When the guides talked on the bus, it was sometimes hard to hear them as the biggest group´s speaker spoke on the speakers, so the others could not hear their guides... Next stop: boat trip by the Nile. It was not optional, everyone went there (costs extra 10€). It was short, enough to take photos, but was nice to see it. After that we were already hungry, but didn´t get much information about the day plan. We went then to a Perfume Shop, what was not even in the original plan and stayed there around 30 min - 1 hour. After that we finally went to eat near the Pyramids. We arrived to the Pyramids at around 14:30. It was not what we expected, everything went too fast. We arrived with the buses at the two pyramids, where we had to buy either a camel / coach ride for 10€ to bring us to the site where you can see all the pyramids. It wasn´t that far away, we stopped - the driver offered to make photos and then of course asked for money, and after that you didn´t really have time to take photos or look around, we had to go.. we thought to the next stop, but that was it, we went back to the starting point. There we had ca. 20 more minutes to look around more closely, buy stuffs, and then it was closing, so the police lead everyone out. We stopped with the bus next to the Sphinx, but we couldn´t go in, just take a few photos from the side, and that´s it. It says 18-21 hours duration, but for us it was 24,5 hours at the end, we arrived back after 01:00 to our hotel. At midnight, the bus just stopped outside Hurghada, and they said from this and that hotels, you have to wait here for another bus. They gave no further information, just take off and wait.. After 10 minutes, another bus came, where the 2 buses exchanged passangers. It was not a pleasant experience after such a long day. The guide on the bus gave us nearly never any information, he was just talking to the people from the biggest group in the front.

Wouldn’t do it again - Positives : Trip was easy to book and instructions for pick up were clear . Pyramids obviously awesome. That’s it for the positives….. Negatives : Although informed prior to departure that coach trip was long , it ending up taking 26 hours ( not the advertised 22 hours) This was primarily due to the guide and driver taking us too their ‘buddies’ coffee / perfume shop and papyrus museum and shop. The museum tour was rushed and chaotic to say the least . Hopefully, with the opening of the new museum, this nonsense won’t reoccur. The ‘additional’ extras that the coach guide flogs you at the museum and tells you that spaces are limited, are ‘interesting’ . First one is the opportunity for you to get a photograph of all the pyramids in alignment. What he doesn’t tell you is that the camel herder who takes you to the location offers to take the photo for you then demands an extortionate fee for doing it !!! Word of advice, take a selfie . Second extra was going inside one of the pyramids. This in itself was quite cool and possibly a once in a lifetime thing. However, don’t expect to see anything of interest once inside and once again, take any pics yourself. The included ‘meal’ was ok, but didn’t come with drinks. Finally, the guide clearly knew his stuff but was pushy as was the coach manager. The coach was rammed and very uncomfortable with a shocking toilet …… In conclusion, I would not recommend this trip or going to Cairo from Hurghada via coach . It ruined the experience of the pyramids.
