- Valley of the Kings - The Valley of the Kings is an extraordinary archaeological site, featuring a range of tombs adorned with exquisite art and hieroglyphs. Be sure to visit King Tutankhamun’s tomb, the valley’s most renowned site, and explore the temples constructed for Ramses II’s sons and Amenhotep III to discover intriguing ancient treasures and artifacts.
- Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari - The splendid Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari is one of the most remarkable funerary monuments of the ancient world, comparable to the Pyramids. Nestled against the dramatic cliffs overlooking the Valley of the Kings, this temple features three grand terraces linked by ramps, each adorned with a series of simple, square columns. Hatshepsut, one of the few female pharaohs in ancient Egypt, fittingly called her creation the “Splendor of Splendors.” Interestingly, much of the temple was constructed during the reign of earlier rulers, beginning with Mentuhotep II around 2050 BC. Over time, many sphinxes and statues have vanished, enhancing the temple’s majestic aura. The cool stone interior offers a refreshing escape from the region’s intense heat and showcases well-preserved wall reliefs and hieroglyphics, many of which still retain their vibrant colors.
- Colossi of Memnon - Majestically situated in the Theban Necropolis, the Colossi of Memnon (Arabic: el-Colossat or es-Salamat) consist of two colossal statues representing Pharaoh Amenhotep III from the 18th Dynasty of Egypt. Erected around 1350 BC, these remarkable sculptures have endured the test of time for over 3,400 years, overlooking the Nile from the west side of Luxor.
- Karnak Open Air Museum - Karnak Temple in Luxor stands as a powerful emblem of ancient monumental architecture, showcasing grand statues, towering columns, and the largest temple ever built, conveniently located near the vibrant heart of the city. Over more than 1,000 years, this site has evolved to reveal a rich diversity of artistic and architectural styles.
- Luxor Temple - The Luxor Temple complex, situated on the east bank of the Nile in Luxor (ancient Thebes), is a significant ancient Egyptian site. Constructed during the New Kingdom primarily under Pharaoh Amenhotep III and later expanded by Ramses II, the temple is dedicated to the Theban triad: Amun, Mut, and Khonsu.
