As we pulled up to the automated gate, we were greeted by a pack of friendly Pyrenees pups and a few adorable corgis. Meeting the KuneKune Pigs

Michelle, the farm’s owner, introduced us to the pigs and shared her passion for preserving this rare breed. She explained that the pigs know their names and behave much like household pets, which was evident as they trotted over to us for treats and belly rubs.

My kids were over the moon, feeding and petting the pigs, and even learning how to make them sit for treats. It was heartwarming to see the pigs respond so eagerly to our attention. Michelle was incredibly patient, answering all our questions about the pigs and the farm’s history. Her dedication to the animals was inspiring, and it was clear that each creature was well cared for.

In addition to the pigs, we met a miniature horse rescue, a pair of friendly jersey cows, and even a sociable rooster. Each animal had its own personality, and my family loved interacting with them all. The farm provided treats for us to feed the animals, which added an extra layer of fun to the experience.

A Rainy Day Adventure

Our visit was briefly interrupted by a light rain shower, but it didn’t dampen our spirits. We took shelter under a nearby cover, where Michelle continued to engage us with stories about the farm. My kids took the opportunity to play a tiki toss ring game, which kept them entertained until the rain passed.

The farm’s accessibility was impressive, with paved driveways leading to the tiny houses, barnyard, and lake. We even caught a glimpse of a new building under construction, intended for hosting small events. The idea of staying in one of the farm’s tiny houses for a staycation was tempting, especially with the thought of waking up to the sound of roosters crowing.

As we wrapped up our tour, we left with a newfound appreciation for the hard work and dedication required to care for farm animals.
