Well worth a visit - I was fortunate to visit during a quiet time. The centre had interactive activities and fascinating information about volcanoes and earthquakes in Iceland. The film was very interesting and showed the explosive nature of volcanoes. Cafe and gift shop on site. Looking at the surrounding volcanoes from the viewing platform really made you think about how restless the land in Iceland is.

Great Activity on a Rainy Day! - We did a Lava Show in Vik a day prior to coming here so I didn't know what to expect and was for a moment concern that we may be repeating a similar experience - though it was a completely different one here - where Lava Show focused on the "lava melting experiment" this Lava Centre focuses on the natural phenomenon as it occurs all over the world, and of course Iceland in particular due to its uniqueness. As people said here, really cool interactive exhibitions - some work better than the others but still cool, and they are of a pretty big scale - my favorite was the sound of the earthquake, felt like I am watching the move Interstellar :) The tickets sale as a bit weird - there are 2 choices, 1 basic for just the moment and then 2 more expensive package for the access to the interactive area - funny enough you don't get any tickets, nor a bracelet or anything, nor does anyone check it when you enter the exhibitions area... basically felt like an honor system so do the right thing!

Interesting place to science behind the volcanos - The lava centre offers two options. A 20 min film and and exhibit. Both helped us understand Icelandic volcanos better. The exhibit is an interactive walk thru. Go early while it is still quiet because once it’s busy having to wait in line to see each part would be frustrating.

Nice interactive exhibits - My favorite exhibit was the time-traveling globe that shows you how the hot spot moved over billions of years until it became the Iceland of today. The movie was also fun. We laid on the bags in the front - perfect if you have a toddler with you!

do not miss - really interesting with an interactive part that evokes the history of eruptions, teaches us the different types of volcano, lava. The small film later puts images on these notions. A store at the exit with a lot of items.

Go here first - We ended up wishing that this had been our first stop in Iceland, agreeing with others that it provides great geological context for all the amazing sights you'll see during your visit. A thorough and well-presented overview of the forces churning under this fascinating land. The staff were super helpful in answering any questions we had.

Good stop - Nice little stop. The exhibits are well done and all ages can appreciate this. We went on a rainy overcast day and still found it very interesting to visit.

Tour Activity - Unless you are on a tour or a bit lacking in things to do, it isn’t worth the drive to stop here. If you are on a tour and stop here, you’ll learn a bit about volcanoes including, in particular, those in Iceland. It’s a bit interesting though seeing volcanoes on video isn’t nearly as good as seeing actual steam vents, hot pots, geysers, etc. There’s some technical information but, overall, it wasn’t very interesting.

Really not worth a stop. - Usually bad reviews are not so bad afterwards, but here I unfortunately have to join most reviews; Way too expensive for a quite short-term experience. The explanation is interactive, but largely fairly difficult to follow. This museum in Hvolsvollur was the least of our experiences on Iceland. You can really spend your spare time on Iceland elsewhere.
