Keflavik - Arriving in the afternoon, guests should locate the Airport Direct kiosk for check-in and directions to the bus that will take them to their hotel. The journey to Reykjavik city takes approximately 45 minutes, and depending on the hotel’s position on the drop-off list, it may take an additional 15-20 minutes to reach the hotel.
Silver Circle | West Iceland Tour | Lava Cave | Overnight in Reykjavík
Borgarnes - The tour begins with a convenient pickup from accommodations in Reykjavik, followed by a scenic drive past Mount Esja and through a tunnel under Hvalfjordur into West Iceland. A brief stop in Borgarnes allows for refreshments and the chance to admire the stunning views across Borgarfjordur.
Deildartunguhver Thermal Spring - The next destination is Deildartunguhver, renowned as Europe’s most powerful hot spring, producing over 180 liters of boiling water per second. Visitors can safely walk on boardwalks through steam clouds around the bubbling springs or view them from a platform.
Snorralaug - Snorralaug (Snorri’s Pool) is a smaller hot spring located in Reykholt, where locals have bathed since the 12th century. Mentioned in medieval writings by Snorri Sturluson, an Icelandic poet and chieftain, this pool is now a protected archaeological site. Visitors can photograph the beautiful old timber church from the 19th century and view a medieval smithy cistern inside.
Hraunfossar - The tour continues to Hraunfossar, a breathtaking series of waterfalls formed by rivers running across the Hallmundarhraun lava field, created a thousand years ago by a volcanic eruption under the Langjokull glacier. The clear glacial meltwater cascades into the Hvita river, offering one of Iceland’s most stunning views.
Barnafoss - A short walk leads to Barnafoss, or “the waterfall of the children,” with a tragic story. A natural stone bridge once spanned these powerful falls, but after two children fell to their deaths, their mother had the bridge destroyed to prevent further tragedies.
Husafell - The tour concludes in the woodland oasis of Husafell, a magical place to relax with birch woodlands, waterfalls, lava fields, clear springs, and medieval remains. Husafell has inspired many artists, including modern sculptor Pall Gudmundsson, known for creating rock harps from local stones. The legendary Husafell Stone, used to test strength, is also found here.
South Coast tour + Glacier hike | Overnight in Vik or the surrounding
Seljalandsfoss - The tour’s first highlight is the “hidden” waterfall at Gljufrabui, concealed in a cave and often missed by visitors. Nearby is Seljalandsfoss, a 60-meter-high waterfall plunging off the Eyjafjallajokull volcano. A path allows for a walk around the waterfall, though it can be slippery, so guidance from the tour guide is recommended. This location is popular, having appeared in music videos, TV shows, and films.
Skogafoss - The next stop is Skogafoss, a globally recognized waterfall featured in “Game of Thrones” and other productions. The 60-meter-high falls create spectacular rainbows on sunny days. Visitors can climb stairs for a higher view and enjoy a café and restrooms nearby.
Reynisfjara Beach - The day concludes with a visit to Reynisfjara, a famous black sand beach once named by National Geographic as one of the Top Ten non-tropical beaches. The dark sands are pounded by Atlantic waves, with the Reynisdrangar sea stacks providing a supernatural photo opportunity. Visitors should stay clear of the waves, which can be unexpectedly strong. The cliffs’ hexagonal basalt columns are home to puffins and other seabirds, and the stone sea arches of Dyrholaey are visible in the distance.
Glacier Lagoon + Amphibian boat tour | Overnight in Reykjavik
Diamond Beach Jokulsarlon - The highlight of the South Coast adventure is Diamond Beach and the Glacier Lagoon at Jokulsarlon. Diamond Beach is named for the sparkling icebergs sculpted by wind and waves on the black sand. The ice offers fantastic photo opportunities and is a perfect spot for a proposal.
Glacier Lagoon - Nearby is the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, one of Iceland’s “crown jewels.” Bright-blue and ghostly-white icebergs break away from the Breidamerkurjokull glacier, creating a growing meltwater lagoon. Visitors can enjoy a 45-minute amphibious boat tour among the icebergs, possibly spotting seals. Jokulsarlon is a peaceful, ever-changing location featured in Hollywood films.
Hofskirkja Church - Hofskirkja, the last church of its kind built in Iceland, dates back to the 19th century. Its turf roof and moss-covered burial mounds blend into the landscape. Rebuilt in the 1950s, it remains a practicing church. The church is not open to the public, so this is a quick photo stop.
Fjadrargljufur Canyon - Fjadrargljufur River Canyon is a stunning green gorge about 100 meters deep and nearly two kilometers long. It gained fame from a Justin Bieber music video and is now popular worldwide. The canyon, formed during a glacial period, is covered in fragile mosses. Visitors will spend an hour exploring this marvelous place.
Vik - Vik Village is Iceland’s southernmost point, with a fairytale charm and a pretty church offering panoramic views. Visitors can see Reynisdrangar and Dyrholaey from a different perspective. Vik is unique as an Icelandic seaside village without a harbor, and in summer, it hosts nesting seabirds, including Arctic terns.
Golden Circle + Kerid Crater Lake + Blue Lagoon experience | Overnight in Reykjavik
Thingvellir National Park - The day starts with a scenic drive from Reykjavik to Thingvellir National Park, a natural wonder where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates are slowly separating. Visitors can stand on two continents simultaneously. Thingvellir is also culturally significant as the site of the world’s oldest surviving Parliament, established by Vikings in 930 AD. Iceland declared independence from Denmark here in 1944. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its cultural history and stunning natural environment.
Geysir - After Thingvellir, the tour continues to the famous Geysir hot spring. Passing through Laugarvatn village, visitors see a geothermally active area where locals bake rye bread in the ground. Geysir is known worldwide for its power and beauty. Nearby Strokkur erupts up to 30 meters every few minutes. Visitors can get close to Strokkur, but should check the wind direction. The area offers lunch, snacks, and souvenirs.
Gullfoss Waterfall - Gullfoss is a double-drop waterfall with a 30-meter cascade, creating endless spray as over a million gallons of water crash into a canyon. Gullfoss is stunning year-round, with rainbows on sunny days and a partly frozen appearance in winter. It is now protected, having once been considered for a hydroelectric plant.
Kerid Crater - The Golden Circle tour includes a stop at the Kerid volcanic crater, adding value to the experience. The 3,000-year-old crater is over 50 meters deep, with colorful mossy greens and red earth hues. Bjork once performed here.
Blue Lagoon - The tour continues to the Blue Lagoon, passing through the Reykjanes peninsula with lava fields, volcanoes, and ocean views before reaching Grindavik. The Blue Lagoon offers a relaxing experience in naturally-heated water with fantastic facilities. Admission is included, ensuring a memorable visit. After two hours at the Blue Lagoon, guests return to Reykjavik to enjoy the evening.
