Highlights
  • Volcano Hekla - Hekla Volcano view
  • Seljalandsfoss - Seljalandsfoss is a waterfall that can be fully encircled, situated on the South Coast of Iceland with a drop of 60 meters (200 feet). Those who join a South Coast tour or rent a car can reach the waterfall from the capital in just a couple of hours.

Due to the waterfall’s close proximity to the Ring Road and impressive natural features, it is one of the country’s most famous and visited falls. Majestic and picturesque, it is one of the most photographed features in all of Iceland.

  • Volcano Eyjafjallajokull - Eyjafjallajokull Glacier / Volcano view
  • Skógafoss - Skógafoss is a waterfall on the Skógá River in the south of Iceland at the cliff marking the former coastline. After the coastline had receded (it is now at a distance of about 5 kilometres (3 miles) from Skógar), the former sea cliffs remained, parallel to the coast over hundreds of kilometres, creating together with some mountains a clear border between the coastal lowlands and the Highlands of Iceland.
  • Kvernufoss - Kvernufoss waterfall is a beautiful 30-meter-high (98 ft) waterfall half-hidden in a gorge in South Iceland, yet very close to the ring road. It is located on the east side of the famous Skógafoss waterfall and is often overlooked by travellers. Please note in wintertime, from November - April, the walking path to Kvernufoss can be impassable due to ice or snow.
  • Dyrholaey - Dyrhólaey, “door hill island”), formerly known by seamen as Cape Portland, is a small promontory located on the south coast of Iceland, not far from the village Vík. It was formerly an island of volcanic origin, which is also known by the Icelandic word eyja [ˈeiːja] meaning island. The volcano erupted about 100 thousand years ago during the Pleistocene. The peninsula has an elevation of 120 metres (390 ft), and the Dyrhólaey Lighthouse, built in 1927, sits at the top of the formation facing the sea.
  • Reynisfjara Beach - Reynisfjara is a world-famous black-sand beach found on the South Coast of Iceland, just beside Vik í Myrdal, which is the southernmost village on the mainland of Iceland.

Visits to it are included on many South Coast Tours and almost all Road Trips in Iceland will also take you there.

From Reynisfjara you can see Reynisdrangar that are impressive rock formations situated near the shore of Reynisfjara beach by the coastal village Vík on the South Coast of Iceland

  • Fjaðrárgljúfur - Fjaðrárgljúfur is a beautiful, dramatic canyon in South Iceland, close to the historic town of Kirkjubæjarklaustur.

Fjaðrárgljúfur beauty and isolation make it a dream location for photographers and hikers alike.

Please note that in wintertime, the road might be closed due to snow from November to April.

  • Skaftafell National Park - Skaftafell in the county of Öræfi, was one of Iceland‘s most isolated areas until the early 70s when the last glacial river at the sands of Skeiðarársandur was bridged in order to complete the Ring Road of Iceland. It is known as one of Icelands most beautiful places, with a magnificent contrast of white glaciers, black sands, and green meadows. The area of Skaftafell is one of the crown jewels of Vatnajökull National Park and provides visitors with an array of hiking trails. A perfect place to witness the variety of natural wonders that the national park has to offer. Skaftafell is a must-see for all visitors of the Vatnajökull Region.
  • Diamond Beach Jokulsarlon - The real name of Diamond Beach is Breiðamerkursandur, which translates to “Broad Plain Sand”. But its jewel-like nickname comes from the chunks of ice that decorate the beach all year long.

Icebergs from the nearby Breiðamerkurjökull glacier break away and bob through the famous Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon before setting out to sea. Some blocks of ice get stranded on the beach, creating the illusion of large diamonds.

The phenomenon is striking because of the ice’s bright color and the beach’s dark sand.

Northern Lights - Thor picked us up from the hotel and it was just me and my partner on this tour. Thor was super friendly and while driving to find the perfect spot to watch the Northern Lights we had a very good conversation. He also brought hot chocolate to keep us warm while waiting for the Norther Lights and when they finally appeard Thor took pictures with his camera. I can highly recommend this tour.

Nice, well organised and flexible Tours - When you start planning a tour in Island you are amazed by the number of offers you can get from the Net with all sorts of prices. We had only 4 days to make the most of beautiful Iceland and a number of activities already in mind, starting with watching the Northern Lights. We definitely wanted to enjoy this tour in the best possible way, avoiding crowds, buses and tour operators who tell you what to do and when to do it. We wanted an expert able to flexibly adapt the activities according to the weather conditions and possible constraints unavoidable dictated by Mother Nature in winter. Thor was very responsive. Contrary to other tour operators who were sending their answers and proposals after 7 or more days, he was quickly reading and sending tailored offers. Thor was always swift, kind and straight to the point when he made offers. He also granted the possibility to adapt the planning and remove / add activities very easily, taking our preferences into account. He organised 2 tours for us, including two wonderful dinners (the first on at Foss Hotel Glacier and the second at the Lobster feast). What can you ask best before starting your Northern Lights hunt??! He was always kind, friendly, uncomplicated and flexible... and that’s what we hoped when you know that you are going to spend so many hours (15 on the first tour) with someone you don’t know. Given all the above we can only warmly recommend to book a tour with “Different Iceland”. Indeed, it made all the difference and left us a wonderful memory of these amazing landscapes.
